Gotcha, makes sense...I am solely basing my suggestion on what I have read on other oil pump replacements (OTM)...perhaps we need less hardness cause our gears really do not wear...only known OP failiure is shattering. Ok, I am convinced...32 will do...what's the difference between 32 and 50 anyways? Can't be too much. Ok, enough rambling from me...let's go forward.

I just stumbled across this thread and only read the last few pages, so sorry if this isn't needed, but I have 2 oil pumps out right now, one from my 97k '95 motor, and one from a low mileage '04 MSM motor, so I'm willing to test anything out if anyone needs.

In any case, I'm now interested in getting a set for when the motor gets all put back together. Might as well since everything is already taken apart!

Travis, can they run one sample before any money is implicated? I want someone to measure the tip-tip clearacnces of the gears.

As in all CNC operations if we ran a test one first he qouted a prototype of 300 for ONE part. I'm already making nothing on the deal so I don't have enough built in. I already have the spec worked to where all tolerences are well within stock service limits. If something fails to meet specification it can be easily reworked, and they will be checking the parts in an optical comparitor for my specifications.

Sounds reasonable, I understand, but if I get gears that are out of spec i will have to punch some babies...you know.
No offense, but you have been here for two months and have 44 posts, which seem very knowledgable and constructive in most instances (we'll forgive you the twin set-up theory), but you are still somewhat new here. I know you are active on Mnet as well even though I do not frequent there. You will be holding $3000 at least of members money...I think aything you could do to make us more familiar with your machinist and co. would help put us at ease.

And please don't take me the wrong way...you got my money, but I want the remaining 17+ people to hurry up and commit.

so Travis, can you clarify a few items further?

Price per part is pricer per actual part or price per SET of gears?

What's the name of the shop doing the work?

what's their delivery schedule after receipt of order?

Will they ship to one person who will distribute them?

thx.

Well, I'm not sure how not to make this sound like an ad on match.com...

I'm a 24 year old college student. I'll probably be in college for a good portion of my life. Number 5 degree is comming soon. I work as an aerospace engineer for www.tomcat-aerospace.com I can give you my email over there privately to verify. With Boundary Engineering I've done quite a bit of odd-ball work, but have never really released any major products. I'm a sort of freelance engineer I've worked with alot of different companies and people to make one offs. I love cars so thats where I spend alot of my freetime. I usaully make "products" that I want to put on my car, its not really a profit thing, more like a feeder for my go fast fund. The machinist company I go through is www.acroprecision.com. The owner is Stuart Dunham he is a great man to work with I've known him for a number of years, and yes I get hook-up prices because I've worked as an engineer in his shop, normally I'd say he'd do something like this for around 250 a piece. He is in all seriousness the best machinist I've ever met, his work is flawless and its done in a timely manner. Now ofcourse if we goto the group buy everyone is going to have my home address, and my home phone number, and my cell phone number, but thats not getting posted to the web. I don't know how to make anyone more comfortable with me then that. I'm no scam artist, a scam artist would charge what its worth and take the money. I'm helping people out because the guys who provided the files were doing the same.

Price is for a set a gears, I don't know what anyone would do with just one or the other heh. I will distribute, I have a 15 dollar shipping charge built into the price for ships in North America.

I am unsure about ship date, given his workload I'd say 3-4 weeks on the lowside, although he likes to work on the 5-6 week time schedule.

Travis, that sounds accaptable to me and many others as well I assume based on the show of hands so far. i have a thread going separately to help you keep things neat and organized as far as interested parties go (look in groupbuy section). I don't want to clutter this thread further and the other thread will keep everyone that is a buyer on one page.
Good luck with the final stages and make an announcement on other thread when you have enough people to start this thing. I suggested at least 25 so if a few bums fall off because they have to pay alimony and child support we are still in the clear.
Best of luck and many many thanks for being able to put this deal together.

Just to clarify, as other people asked: $150 is for the set, correct?

Also: The design is the same, only the material is changing? No difference in flow or pressure or anything, just something which is less likely to fly apart at high RPMs?

Everytime I think of adding 1000 rpm, people warn me of the pump. Not liking having that fear riding shotgun. :-)

Travis,

I've been following this thread for a while. I haven't heard from you since I saw you at the track earlier this summer. I am interested in a set of gears, since I'm in town, can I pick them up to save the shipping costs?

He said this is the sort of thing the machinist would normally get $250 for.... Meaning without his connections, his cost would be $250, and without him passing it to us at his cost, the finished product would be in the $350-450 range. So yeah, $149 shipped is pretty much a ridiculously good deal. I'm probably in on this, I just have to get myself over to the other thread.
