Opinions on DIY mani and how to make it stronger

Snaged a new motor today and the previous owner gave me his DIY mani/dp and since the funds are kinda tight i was thinking of just using what i have. Savington brought up a good point about how the OEM header was not made to hold the weight of a turbo, and this DIY mani is clearly made out of parts of the OEM header.

dude... this manifold looks SICK!
you need to weld bracket that goes from turbo inlet flange to a "head" flange. any muffler shop will charge you around $40 to do so. ps: edited. |

Another case of "The work computer blues." No pictures available. I would brace it somehow. Mabe someone else has a picture of a braced manifold they can post.

I think the brace needs to run from the turbo flange down to the block, or the motor mount. Both dvcn and I have SSAutochrome manifolds braces that way and they're surviving. I'm using some round mild steel rod. It does a nice job of supporting while having some give for expansion/contraction. I originally went with square tube, but it eventually tore. So I sectioning the square and welded up some solid rod in the center.

I just used a bit of 10mm steel rod from the turbo flange to the head flange. The manifold seems pretty similar in design apart from mine being steam pipe, whoever made it had made a pretty good effort I reckon.

Came with the motor, its got an oil filter relocation kit on it, and the previous owner had that piece of crap attached to the end of it.

You want the support going to the underside anchored somewhere else other than the head flange for maximum support.

you could also use the factory nuts that are on the mani to bolt 2 upper braces
|

Here's a bottom mount support courtesy of fredio. It's actually sandwiched between the turbo and mani flange.
