Post up your DIY Heat shields!
I see posts pop up once in a while with DIY heat shields but i thought itd be nice to get everyone to post pictures of their heat shields in one post.
mainly so everyone(I) can get some more ideas

See mine attached. On a totally unrelated project I researched the heat disapating properties of various metals. Aluminum disipated it the fastest and Stainless the slowest. What that means is that if you have an Aluminum heat shield the heat "goes through it" faster than Stainless. For a turbo heat shield it likely hardly noticeable. Mine is made of stainless. I also have a stainless plate on the underside of hood and a very small carbon fiber hood scope turned backwards to allow under hood air to escape. I also insulated the front hood with the double thick aluminum wrapped bubble pack.

did your research show that the vast majority of heat incident on the hot side of the heat shield is radiated and not conducted? and that aluminum's ability to reflect that heat back is much better than stainless?
either way, you want best results, polish both sides of the heat shield as best you can. mirrors dont absorb or emit heat much.
If you want more than that, get some pure gold foil and coat the inside of the shield with it.
and if you still want better, get some gold foil then fiberglass or nomex and make a gold-fiberglass/nomex-gold sandwich. then you'll be ice cold.
even aluminum foil would work very well in that sandwich.
now all of youse go out and build some awesome heat shields!!

Tim- it's a 70s transam fender vent. Comes with a metal screen. I haven't gotten around to installing it yet.
Kenny- I'm more interested in how you compensated for the cuts you made through the rad support for IC pipes. More pics? (a link to keep from jacking the thread)
The real question is "what is the goal of the heat shield"? The blanket is less of shield and more of an insulator keeping heat in the turbine - which in reality should be the first priority. The reduce radiant heat is merely a beneficial by-product. That makes using metal shields look like a "band aid" solution for a turbo setup.

I cut out the sections to allow over the rad pipes thinking that after I would reinforce the center section with brackets over the pipes. Once I had a closer look it seemed to me that the center section was supported by the hood latch assembly so I installed it and all appears firm. I lowered the rad as well. I will post a few more pics of it once I get home today. I have not drive the car yet as I am doing body work until spring.
