rear mount turbo ?

rear mount turbo ?

has anyone played with a rear mount turbo on a miata ?
sure its easy enough to put one in the engine bay
but what about one under the trunk, running low boost and no intercooler, purely letting the length of the pipe work function as an intercooler, max 0.5 bar or so
I think it would be simpler and not sure of downsides at this stage as its just an idea - biggest headache will be the oil feed and return issues - but theres comp turbos grease filled turbo to make that problem go away,
I am guessing it will be cheaper to do a rear mount for sure
whats the obvious thing I am missing ?

Room seems like the biggest issue to me; aside from lag, extra piping, and oil supply/return. Trying to find space to mount a turbo under the car, then trying to find space to not only run an exhaust back to the turbo but to run charge piping back to the intake seems like a nightmare.
On the other hand a basic log manifold and charge piping run in the exact same spot at the stock intake is probably the easiest, simplist, and most straight forward aftermarket turbo setup I've ever seen on any car. It just doesn't make sense to me, but I'd love to see if someone could do it.

I actually just saw a picture yesterday on this forum for a rear mount turbo set-up. I clicked the picture and checked the guys started threads. He had everything mounted up but it was ghetto as hell looking and I'm pretty sure he failed miserably.... at least that's what I took from his build thread.

I'm still grappling with the concept that the turbocharger on this Subie uses sealed, greased bearings, and requires no oil. Something about that concept isn't quite clicking.
