Rebuilding T25
So my SR20 turbo needs a rebuild. Well maybe it doesn’t, I have no clue. But I’d rather be safe than sorry. Does the CHRA need to be balanced after I rebuild it?
Probably should be, I couldn't find anywhere local that would balance a turbo their shop didn't rebuild.
and I read the wheels are balanced individually as well as together, so I just attempted to put mine back together in the same positions.
havent run it yet though

About 10 years ago i had a guy rebuild my sr20 turbo and he did an outstanding job. Not sure if he’s still up to it. His email is/was [redacted]

I rebuilt multiple SR turbos without rebalancing them. Less than ideal; sure but they worked great for thousands of miles without issue. and went onto other builds for thousands more of miles i'd imagine.
Watch a youtube video and get a decent set of picks. Frustrating at first but once you figure out how to twist the clips into place it's cake.
Try to mark where things are lined up now and realign them later. Better than just sending it but i have done it both ways with success. I have also paired a turbine wheel with a compressor wheel from an entirely different turbo with success also.

To add some data, I rebuilt my T25 3 years back with no balancing and it never developed additional play after 2 years of constant use. Allegedly it's running fine on another car now
I know I could rebuild it...............but I think I'm going to ***** out and have it professionally rebuilt and balanced by GPop. Knowing my history of working on my miata, something is bound to go wrong, no matter how careful I am. The price is fair to me, and I'll have the receipt of a professional rebuild should I ever decide to upgrade to a larger turbo and sell the SR20. But thank you all for your input, maybe sometime in the future I'll do it myself
