Recommendations for t3/t25 junkyard turbos?
i was on begi's site today and saw that they are finally having a sale on there 1.6 cast manifolds for either t3 or t25 turbo's. so i was thinking might as well jump on this good deal they having going and get rid of my scary ( feels like it could crack any minute ) dsm 14b turbo w/ebay mani and down pipe set up. i just dont feel comfortable with the ebay mani and down pipe i have for my dsm 14b set up, both pieces have cracked and i dont want to go through with removing and repairing.
I junkyard hop alot and i do come by ALOT of turbo'd cars but im a little clueless as to which turbos from which cars would benifit a 1.6L. i dont want to spend much so thats why a junkyard turbo would be do-able for now. a t3 or t25 is fine with me since those footprints are the only type manifold begi is having a sale on Thank you :noob::bowrofl: |
there were old fords that had t3/60s on them that you can find for cheap and rebuild. Those will get you an easy 230-250whp with supporting mods (standalone, exhaust, etc)

Go into the BS section and click on the sticky "Every Miata Website You'll Ever Need".
Down in the MISC section of the first post, there's a link to "JUNKYARD TURBO LIST". thanks for the sweet post samnavy.
after reading through the whole list i just got more confused and now dont wanna go through the hassle of searching unless someone would recommend one of the turbos from one of the junkyard cars listed up there, but if anything i dont mind buying a t3 turbo somewhere online thats good for my needs, looking to make minimum of 200rwhp, i mainly want the quick responsive feel, power isnt everything |
I'm starting out with a T25 off of an SR20DET. It's been done lots of times and there are tons of SR20 guys getting rid of their T25's for cheap when they upgrade. It got mine for $50 locally from a guy including a cracked manifold. Just an idea.
|
90% of those cars on that list aren't in junkyards anymore. I'd go for a mid-late 90s saab for a t25, they are all standard for 2" inlet, t2 exhaust flange, and use a exhaust style flange exhaust outlet. They are also usually still working and are reasonably modern. I guess you could take one of their exhaust housings and fit a 2G DSM turbo setup in for a slightly different t25, but I wouldn't even consider most of that list anymore due to it having special flanges or other stupid OEM shit going on.
VOLVO 780 85-87 2.3L GAR TB0363 hahah are they serious they only sold like 100 of those in the US |

I actually have one of those turbos on the shelf. |
and if you find a bmw 324/524 td in the junk yard with good parts on it an e30 guy will give u enough for the turbo and manifold to pay for a much nicer turbo.

to not create new thread i will post here
i have smoking T25 turbo from CA18DET who needs repair if i want to use it but repair here costs about 400$ i think that is too expensive so i have idea to find and buy some junkyard turbo in normal condition so the question is: what turbo uses saab 9000 (year 93 and 94) ? is it smaller or bigger compared to my T25 from ca18 ? my goals is ~170-180whp on 1.8 miata |

Perfect example of when it's correct to dig up an old thread... nice job!
I can bet the turbo from those Saabs is bigger than from the CA18det. But what's more important is if the turbine/DP flange is compatible with what you've currently got. Almost all the Nissan T25's use "STANDARD T2" flanged turbos. No T3 will fit, and quite a few other OEM T25's use a proprietary flange (like DSM's), or the bolt pattern is off. $400 is absurd to rebuild a journal bearing turbo... even with a full balance job. If the wheels are good, and it's just leaking a little, you can buy a rebuild kit from a website called G-Pop Shop ($80) and rebuild it yourself with a few basic handtools and a dental pick. |

+1 on the ford T3's. Also look for Merkur's wich had the same turbos. If the turbo thunderbird has an intercooler you don't want that one as it's an IHI and much smaller.
It's a t3 with stage1 turbine and 60 trim compressor. It exists in .48/.60 or .63/.60 A/r. I have the .48/.60 on my 1.9L bimmer and it's really nice for a DD even at 8psi, with lower lag than I expected and always in boost when needed, at the same time having a bit of space for future improvements (raise the boost) this one is the turbo I'm speaking about: MustangForums.com - View Single Post - A few questions about a 2.3t swap. IIRC there is someone with this turbo in the build section of this site ;) |
everyone who's cool puts a 60 trim T3 on their 1.6L.

Sam, you are the man!I already have my Saab turbo, but that post of the list is shit! Its guys like youy that can make this site fun.

The Volvo turbos are not bad and are relatively easy to find (at least in my experience). Buddy of mine drives a 760 Turbo and we see them all the time when we're shopping in parts yards.
|
hey good luck with your turbo setup. I have a t25 manifold and downpipe. Im happy with it as there are many different options for it. If you need any help deciding just ask. Also i have a t25 off of a 300zx twin turbo i would get rid of(ceramic coated and powdercoated, freshly rebuilt)
