What pulley did you have on the crank?

I’m actually glad to see that in a way. I’ve heard it said that the stock gear is a failure point and one MUST use a billet gear in high power applications, but that’s the first time I’ve actually seen a failed stock gear reported here.

It would happen a lot more in the past before boundary was around, now that everyone that goes for big power uses a boundary pump you dont hear about failures anymore.

I've definitely blown one up into several pieces. Cracked the housing open too.

The problem with documentation for things like this is that over the years it gets lost and no one really cares anymore, because it's already common knowledge and no one is questioning it (except the n00bs)

yea with enough research I found these were very well documented on how little power they could take.

i was only on 8 lbs for 2 weeks which may have done it or I heard it’s the vibration that gets it.
i def was doing 60 mph entries on some bumpy *** dirt roads for months regurlaly when it was NA. I honestly am thrownig this one up to how hard I was on the motor NA
i learned to drift on this motor and would reguralrley ride the limiter before I learned how to shift while drifting.

yea hopefully I’m the first to break it with stock power. I didn’t really drive it much while it was turboed for 2 weeks. I 100% broke this due to intense vibrations due to driving conditions.

I was turboed at this point in the video but you get the picture. I would bomb that road daily on NA power. You can hear the passenger filming in the video yelling “holy ****” from how hard I’m hitting holes.

yup. I was 100% aware of the possibility of failure on these things but I thought I was nowhere near the power goals it was rated at. The car was tuned by myself on diypnp so I don’t know exactly how much power I was running but it wasn’t much. It coUldnr have been over 180hp

My stock pump is still alive and presumably well for now. Over 20k miles into +300whp street driving on this motor, and approaching 200k on the oil pump. Obviously they can fail, but I don't think it's a necessary upgrade to any boosted miata. I always felt like crappy dampers and high rpms would kill them off quicker than HP does.

Good to have the extra failure datapoint, thanks for sharing VeryNicholas. You're damn lucky you pulled it when you did. Scary to think I could be driving around with pump gears like that!
