So sick of stuff not fitting
I'm starting to get annoyed. Nothing is fitting the way I had envisioned. First the turbo positioning, the dp not mating as it should...now the intercooler isn't fitting where I wanted, ala UofACats. My intercooler, with all the flangework, is damn near 3.25" thick, although the core is only ~2.5" :vash:
I almost want to throw in the towel, sell everything off, and buy a decent GReddy setup. But not yet. |
dont give up man i have had a shitty year as well it is worth it in the end. :bigtu: The more you suffer the more is shows you realy care rigth
|
welcome to my world.
this is what i started with: https://www.miataturbo.net/braineack/turbo_kit/kit.jpg the only thing that still remains from this are; two couplers, the coldside pipe, modded hotside , BOV, and boost gauge. |
You need a hammer. A big one.

Did you move the radiator? AC? I don't see your car in the vBgarage. Throw some pics up, that always helps. edit: 1,000  |

I had to grind the flanges for everything to fit. Is that an option?

How about a zis wheel and bench grinder? Got them :dancegay:
|
I think I might have figured out a way to get the intercooler in there and the pipes routed. It'll squish the pipes some, but it should be alright to get me started.
I've been playing around with moving both the rad and AC condensor...ground/cut off excess flange area on the rad and intercooler, but to no avail. I'm not planning on posting anything in the vbgarage until my car actually has a turbo. Or putting my sticker on ;) |
So, I just did a quick check, and it looks like the squished 2" pipe gives the equivalent area of a 1.83" pipe. Hopefully that'll be ok.

where are you squishing things....i want pics.

DIY = Make It Fit
DIY isn't always the cheaper option, and definately not the easiest. It's rewarding none the less, so keep at it! |
It got dark and the floodlights were attracting bugs, so I came in without any decent pic. Basically, I've lowered the radiator a bit and tilted it back, and tilted the top part of the AC condensor back to leave a little space between the radiator support piece and the condensor through which I can slide some 90° 2" radiator hoses over and into my Audi IC with top-mounted inlet/outlet. It's all just kinda test fitted in there right now, but hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to button things down and solidify it.

I lowered the rad about an inch, and moved the AC foward about 3/4 inch or so from memory, with grinding a little off the I/C I was able to stuff it down far enough. You can see the trimming I did on the flat-black metal as well. Although you can also see most of it was unnecessary..
My build is going somewhere else, so it's all removed. Want the I/C and pipes? .. course you could rip out that AC  |

I'm so glad my car doesn't have PS/AC/Cruise.
|
i wanna take my CC/PS off...but am afraid i'll do something wrong haha. it would def make everything fit a lot better....
|
Either my car came from the factory without this stuff or it was removed. Oddly, it still has a power steering cooler that appears never to have been used.
