The Start of it All
Hi all, i have just picked up a 2007 MX-5 grand touring that i'm going to turn into a showcar/just fun as hell to drive. I am new to these cars and was wondering if anyone has done any major builds. I am planning on forged Pistons/rods/cams/new clutch/rearend/suspension/widebody/turbo(Maybe twin)/wheels/roters/big brakes/sway bars. my goal is to be at about 500-600 hp.
Mainly looking for someone that has done something similar and can give me a ballpark price. Also looking for feedback on how you would do your own build. and where you fine the most reliable parts. Thanks all for your time and help.

I see you've met the welcoming committee.
The Miata isn't a high-HP car, sorry to say. That's not just about the engine, it's about the transmission, the differential, the space available for rubber, etc.
There are a fair number of 1990-2005 cars driving around with various V8 engines under the hood. The GM LS-series is the most popular conversion by far (kits are available.) 400-500 HP is pretty doable with these swaps, though to get there you have to replace literally every single component of the drivetrain. And I'm not using the word "literally" to mean "figuratively." Engine, transmission, driveshaft, differential, axles, wheel hubs... Pretty much nothing Mazda remains.
I'm not aware that anyone has done such a swap in the NC (2006-2015) chassis yet. Give it a few years and a sawzall and I'm sure we'll see something happen eventually. EDIT: looks like Flyin Miata already has this one taken care of. Thanks, Chiburbian.
If you're looking to get 600 HP out of the stock block, forget it. I rarely use the word "impossible," but it just ain't gonna happen. Membership in the 300 HP club is extremely exclusive, and that's with the earlier cars for which engine management options and aftermarket parts support are better.

IMO the easiest bestest way to do what you want to do is just send your car to Flyin' Miata and ask for an "Atomic Betty" clone. (with higher HP motor)
This V8 Miata is the best car I?ve driven all year

The '07-15 cars have the MZR series engine shared with Ford Focus rally cars, the new turbo mustang and such. There is also already a nice LSX swap available through V8Roadsters for the platform. The NC has more parts commonality with the RX8 than the NA/NB, in fact I think there is none.
The vr-3000gt needed 900hp because it is a piggy. These cars, not so much. Even in the fatty NC it is going to be hard to hold as much as you are talking. And 2wd.
