Default tap for oil pan - 1/2"x13npt ok?

most of the guides call for 1/2"x14npt, but it just so happens that my tap and die kit has a 1/2"x13npt tap. I am guessing that 14npt in this case means 14 threads per inch? If so, and taking into account that the oil pan is so thin there will only be a couple of threads, would I get away with the 13 npt tap and it would just be a little more snug of a fit?

1/2-13 is NC (national Coarse) not NPT....it might not work....just test it on scrap metal first.

if you need the proper 1/2NPT let me know.

1/2" pipe is WAYYYYY bigger than 1/2" bolts. thumb vs. pinky size.

thanks guys - I am in sterling, va. (nova)
I am always up for ordering from harbor freight, since invariably more tools tag along for the ride. But I might check the hardware store first just to see what they want for the tap since I don't need the other stuff in the kit. Anyone know a good place to find the bit?

Oh and braineack, thanks for the tips on oil lines. I am ordering:
JGS td05 drain line kit, and for feed, am getting the following from Summit:

1x32.39 Hose, Braided Stainless Steel, -4 AN Female End, Red/-4 AN Female End, Red, 36 in.

1x11.99 Fitting, Adapter, AN Flare to Metric, -4 AN to 10mm x 1.5 Male

1x10.99 Fitting, Hose End, 90 Degree, -4 AN Hose to Female -4 AN

1x11.99 Fitting, Adapter, AN Flare to Metric, -4 AN to 10mm x 1.25 Male

dude. then stop by my house saturday in CENTREVILLE and pick up the drill bit and tap you need. I'll be working on Newbsauce's ride installing a megasquirt and a bunch of other goodies....and you can point and laugh at mine.

rev2red = my vanity plate.

We'll probably be out early to avoid the heat, and work for a few hours.

By the time you come over my head will be removed....so it won't be very pleasant to look at :gay:
