Default Throttle Body Interchageability

Does anybody know if the complete throttle body assembly from a '94-'97 (or even a '99+) will fit onto the intake manifold of a 1.6? How about transplanting just the TPS portion from a later car to a 1.6 throttle body?

It seems that the supply of 1.8 throttle bodies (with their accompanying TPS) is far greater than that the supply of '90-'93 automatic TBs.

Joe P, my man, what is your end goal--To add vari-TPS to your current EMU set up? See post #4 in this MS thread

No, actually I'm starting to contemplate going doing a Megasquirt. I'm getting bored without a project to keep me occupied, and I'd read that the MS likes having a variable TPS for the purpose of the accel map, and apparently the idle as well from what you've found.

Though at the moment, I'm being distracted otherwise... I've been chasing a hesitation ghost for a while. Popped the hood tonight to change the plugs and found oil on the valve cover near the back. I'm hoping and praying it's nothing more than a bad PCV valve- it did seem to be mostly around the dipstick tube.

I know of an automatic miata in the junkyard, which means variable TPS for 1.6 for you if you want it bad enough.

haven't i read on here that people are using the TPS from a bimmer?

just went into the attic to see if the bolt patterns are the same between 1.8 tb and 1.6 mani. they aren't. FM makes an adapter to go the other way i believe. i guess you could widen the wholes in the 1.8 TB but when i lined up the 1.6 tb with the 1.8 mani the butterfly rubbed against the inside of the mani. might also happen with 1.8 tb on 1.6 mani

Yeah- I'm gonna drop by the stealer tomorrow and see if I can pick up a 323GTX PCV and a cam cover gasket. I replaced the gasket about two years ago, but I've had the three bolts nearest the turbo on and off about two dozen times since then (to pull the heatshield).

Thanks for checking on that. Guess I'll have to retrofit what I've got. Maybe check out that Bimmer part...

You don't want the TPS off the automatic 1.6 local to me? Pretty sure I could get it for $15 shipped to you. Not positive, pretty sure though.

Heck, if you can grab it for anywhere near that I'll take it. Let's say anything under $30 and I'll cover your expenses plus a finder's fee. If at all possible, the plug that goes into it would be nice too.

Joe,
if cjernigan comes up empty, my variable tps and plug will be up for sale shortly. I just paid more than you guys are talking about for a 1.8 tps plug alone.

Using the FM adapter to mount my 1.6 tb on the ubercharger was a non starter for space reasons.

I just looked on car-part.com for a dohc protege auto throttle body with variable tps and a bunch came up for <$30. The bp tb from the dohc escort gt and protege lx will fit.
