I´ve read FM base Link maps and they seem awefully conservative.

I´m currently at 8º base timing and taking 6º off with the MSD, for a total of 8 degrees retard from stock, running 12 psi of boost, 93 octane fuel, 12.0 A/F ratios. No audible knock, no evidence of detonation in the spark plugs, engine running strong for 2 years and a lot of track time. Stock ´95 1.8 engine.

How much are you retarding?

 

that is fairly conservative. I'd up it to 10-12 base. You'll notice it on the butt dyno. listen/look for detonation.
