Local Auto Stone had some K&Ns but none for me.

They had a Spectre ricer cone filter with a narrower neck - mine is larger than the pipe so it has a coupler stuffed in it so it can fit the curved pipe
Still, I rather get an oval one.

I'm including the link to K&N in case somebody follows in my stumbling foot steps. I still have to visit a friend who has some silicone elbows I might "borrow" before I order stuff.

Or go man-sized.

AEM Dryflow. 14" for 4" piping. Manpants.

you aren't going to be able to fit an oval one with any more width than your current big end diameter.

your already pressing it into the headlight motor.

Thanks. I was thinking an offset one

Their web site (or me) is kind of screwy but right now I'm leaning toward a cone, tapered and with an offset. This means that it will duck past the headlight motor and angle toward the left/front corner.

The ricer cone that's on there now measures roughly 6 at the base and 5 height

More guessing is required but the likely candidates are p/n SN-2540 SN-2550 and SN-2560

The current "Guinner" that moma will not let me order yet ?

SN-2550 - K&N Universal Air Filters, Custom Air Filter direct from K&N

It should strategically avoid the headlight motor and spill toward the left front corner to still have decent surface area.

Ok so I have to ask: why that shape and size? does a large oval filter flow so much more than a compact cone that its beneficial to go big and oval just to stuff it in there?
I notice both FM and BEGi use the huge oval shaped ones in most their kits
Sorry if threadjack, but kinda still on topic

I'm guessing its better. But how much better? Anyone know?

I'm talking about that (above ) vs something like this:

I wouldn't consider the one FM sells to be "huge".

K&N's on trucks and other domestic large displacement shitboxes are much much bigger than the one on my miata currently.

I guess you want to go as big as you can go just so don't have any bottleneck there at all.

I've used and recommended the RU-5111 since 2006. I think it's a pretty good filter for our engine bays.

You're right its not but I mean bigger than your typical cone, and a sorta different/odd shape.

And yes I agree, but I'm curious how much of a differnece in flow there is, because if its not significant I'd still rather use a small compact cone.
