Default getting a linear tps with a 1.6 (few questions)

So, I have a normal 1.6 TPS... friend says this won't work with MS since it's just on/off and not linear.

I do some research and find the 1.6 auto TPS >is< linear just like a 1.8. Then, a friend of my friend tried to install the 1.6 auto throttle body onto his car and apparently nothing matches up. Is there a proper way to achieve a linear tps on the stock 1.6 throttle body?? I guess nothing really matches up, including the auto TPS into manual TB.

The throttle body itself is different between the 1.6 A/T and M/T cars. It's a subtle difference, however it's enough that the TPSs are not interchangeable between them.

You can indeed install a complete 1.6 throttle body assembly, including TPS, from an automatic car onto a standard car. The intake manifolds are the same on both cars, as are the throttle cables, IAC valves, etc.

no reason he couldn't fit an automatic TB, must have not been from a 1.6L

I suggest you see the WELLS TIP210 mod in the MSPNP FAQ thread.

Look into the AEM section for a write up I did about using a 240SX TPS sensor. Should work fine with Megasquirt and really easy to install because it has a wire harness coming out of it.

You will need to source a linear TPS from the aftermarket or from another application. The easiest swap is probably a BMW TPS Bosch part # 0-280-120-402 from an auto E30 or E36, or Bosch #0-280-120-406 from an E32. Both of these should bolt on your miata TB w/o modification. You will need to adapt the wiring harness to accomodate. The BMW pinout is
Pin 1-black wire-5volt in
Pin 2-shielded wire-ground
Pin 3-yellow wire-signal out
Pin 4-ground
Pin 5-WOT switch
Pin 6-Closed switch
_
6 1
5 T 2
4 3
I like bolt-on directly. I was headed to the Pick-Your-Part today anyway. Should be full of BM-Trouble-Yous with ghey trannies.

I like the modded TPS better because you can still use the oem connector so long as you wire your MS harness correctly.

WELLS TPS201 mod $30 from autozone or advance

3 wire easy install... so easy, even a caveman (like me) can do it.
