No. You can't.

No full boost by 2500rpm on a 1.9L engine. Ask me how I know

JayL 04-06-2012 03:10 AM

I still fail to see what the big deal is about something like this. At the end of the day, let's say that you make your power even earlier than any current setup. This would be great for a daily driver, but pretty pointless for a properly setup track car. Even doing this with a peak of 450 whp, I'd like to see one of you guys beat Andrew around the track with his current 350 whp setup. This is a great discussion for the internet, but when it comes time to putting down a fast lap, there's more to it than horsepower.

Faeflora 04-06-2012 04:01 AM

STFU you bench racers.

RattleTrap 04-06-2012 04:09 AM

Y'know, I don't know why we'd talk the OP out of his plan. If we get video of it on youtube it should be quite entertaining.

Faeflora 04-06-2012 04:18 AM

Yes this.

Fwiw i have gt40 frame turbo and am pullin out all the tricks for spool

Quick spool valve
Shiloads of Meth
Shiloads of timing
Soon-to-be pre compressor WI

it still spools only 10psi in first. At 8000rpm.

I think you would need nitrous for full spool on every gear. Btw 25psi is a lot less than 36psi. I have a big caulk.

psreynol 04-06-2012 04:24 AM

might be late to the party on this thread but they are doing these for the after market. about several months ago a looked at a document that explained at a high level how those turbos will be released with a integrated controller. I don't remember all the details but I do recall the sizes are borderline too large for our car. when I have time I will track down the doc but I'm sure you guys can find it if you want. the doc was linked on another forum.

I agree with all of this. I know this would not be the solution to track only cars as it really wouldnt make a difference. This type of turbo would be best suited for the street track or street only car for driveability and quick launches. It could also be great for drifting as many if not most to all drifters go V8 for the response. I'm not guaranteeing it will ever be possible for a low displacment 4 cylinder to make full boost from a large turbo at 2500 rpms but optimistically that's what a turbo like this would be designed for and look forward to future development. Mark my word though, this is the future of turbo charging and most if not all OEM applications will have this technology or some form of it within the next 5-10 years.

And your opinion is......?

Okay, Joose,
The only problem I have is with your 'full boost at 2500' concept given the context of 500hp up top from a sub 2 liter four-stroke 'conventional' engine using one turbo.
Your cylinder pressures would be, well, let's just say I forsee a lot of paperweights in your future.

What you want is this

It's not a statement of opinion, most drifters definitely are not "going v8." Look at the cars that dominate a drift lineup.

And how are you gonna get on here and say "yeah I know my super turbo won't make a difference on the track" when you ride all over hustler's jock about how your little luv rocket will poo all over him in every way, when he (2nd to savington) has the DEFINITION of a capable track turbo miata?

18psi 04-06-2012 03:16 PM

What a lot of these kids don't understand too is our motors can't even CONSUME the 25psi or whatever it is, from a large turbo, at 2500rpm.

Stick a 30r+ car with mbc set to 25psi in 5th gear at 2k rpm and go W0T. See how much surge you get.
Ask me how I know

Hey dumb fu(k why dont you learn how to interpret english. "many if not most to all drifters go V8 for the response."

In dumba$$ terms: People in the drifing scene that decide to go from a 4 cylinder to a v8 do so for increased response and convienience of having optimal torque at a much broader range.

Can you comprehend that?

i think what he's saying is: "count the number of turbo drift cars vs. v8 cars."

anyways, i was late:

Not understand the point/relevance of this comment. The point of these VGT turbos are to have a small turbo at low RPM(like a 2554) and the flow and power of a big turbo in high RPMs(like a 3076)

Braineack 04-06-2012 03:23 PM

so they have different compressor wheels?

Are you serious?
So what happens when said big arse compressor wheel starts spinning earlier and cramming insane amounts of air into the engine, about 200% more than the engine can consume/process?

Think about what vgt does for a second, then try again.

essentially yes....the wheel moves based on rpm/throttle/boost levels

Yes, surge but a VGT turbo, from my understanding "shrinks" to essentially become a smaller turbo for instant response and then expands as the rpms rise.
