Get ready for VVT control!
Ben is working on putting together the first kit off the line for VVT control. It will initially support '01-'05 Miata VVT, with other engines planned as a firmware update. This one monitors cam position in real time and uses a PID loop to make sure you're getting the amount of cam advance you are actually commanding. There will be a 3D cam advance table for tuning the advance across the RPM and MAP range.
The controller has another cool feature for MS1 users. It can translate the NB style signals into NA style signals, letting you run an existing MSPNP on a '99-'00 engine swap. This box doesn't have to be run with an MS, though - it operates on its own for use with other engine management.

Cool beans.
I hope it samples cam position 2x per cam cycle (i.e. on the single pulse rising edge, and the rising edge of the 2nd of the twin pulses). This improves response time by 2x.
And that the I output can be limited to +/-5% ish ...
.. and that the code has a provision for setting the duty cycle% that holds the cam phase... and that 0 advance results in 0 duty cycle...
It would be extra sweet if the P, I, and D gain values can be set differently for 1000, 3000, and 5000 RPM a la Adaptronic, because the system has a slower sampling rate at lower RPM, resulting in more potential for oscillation...

Pricing will be in the ballpark of the V2.2 MegaSquirt - it has a lower parts count, but being a lower volume product, has more R&D costs to recoupe.
Current firmware requires NBB sensors. It's likely future firmware updates will support more options.
