I can get you a nice MKTurbo setup shipped out to you. So you can run 250whpish and hit 12.7. Seems like a good upgrade.

Did you actually look at my times? I mean, come on guys, I ran high 15's at 80 something. Pretty sure thumpetto's stock one yielded better timeslips. I got smoked by a ford st.

What ever, here's it's slow *** timeslip.

I almost caught up on basically a 4th gear spool log.

I actually think it was a white one and not the blue one, but they were both identical except for the color. They even both dialed in a 14.45, they were buddies.

Upon closer examination, it does look like he gave up at the 1/8 mark. Perhaps he heard all the noise my car makes when I miss a shift. He did get to go about a second before I did, so he would have been around the 1/8 when I missed.
Who knows, supposedly they can run low 13's?
But supposedly my car can run 12's too, but I sure as hell couldn't last time. The car is up to the task for sure though.

I adjusted my seat position a little the day before the race, I got to remember not to do that.

You need that automatic that @patsmx5 is selling. Solve those missed shifts we all seem to have. Kidding but seriously wondering what your consistent times would be.

I had a similar thought, there's actually an automatic m edition for sale on my local CL for $1000 with a broken transmission.

I'm no good at trying to 'speed shift' my 5sp and the more I try the more missed shifts I have.

With an auto that can handle the hp/torque and shift hard and consistent you'd probably be what 12.2-12.4 consistently (12.7 IIRC was your best?). That'd be the ultimate "girlie car" at the strip. Wonder if anyone makes a hi-stall converter?

Here's @patsmx5 thread on the auto subject: https://www.miataturbo.net/suspensio...n-setup-26530/

there are SOOO many things he could do to make his car faster before he even remotely needs an auto, lol.

We aren't talking about faster. We are talking about consistency. An auto would provide more consistent times. He wouldn't miss shifts or not slip the clutch just right.

Don't kid! I mean if anyone was going to put a built auto in their miata, it would be the guy who is drag racing his miata every week.

If you're actually thinking about it let me know. Vid of not missing gears for thought:

I dropped 0.45s off my absolute best time I ever ran the 2nd time going to the drag strip on a shakedown run launching at 8 PSI. The car will likely go 6-7 tenths faster than it's ever went (at the same boost/same power level) once I am launching it with the same boost level as before. It makes a HUGE difference.

This. Drag radials and an auto are the best two things I ever did to the car. The radials make the car so much faster and consistent. Actually, the auto does the same thing. With a manual my best time vs my average time, those were two very different numbers. Because clutch, heatsoak, shifting, not enough boost on launch, spin/ slip, 3rd hate me today, etc. With the auto it just works.

EDIT, more than 4/10ths, 0.45s.

Don't worry, if I pick up a dead auto miata. You will be the first person to know Pat.

I think about it often, but my wife is traveling and would likely blow a fuse if she came home and found me with another one of these things.

The truth is, I love my manual transmission, all my cars are manual. Never had an automatic in my life, always a 4 or 5 speed. I race in my local gear jammers class which only allows manuals.
So we all have to deal with it, at least in my class. Last time I even lived up to the name, jamming gears.

A few years ago all my cars were manual, but now they are all automatic... Good news is 2 of them are turbo, and the other is an AMG so while it's an auto, it's no slushbox and certainly not boring.

If you're going to stick with a manual, there's a few things you can do to make it shift better. I'll put these in order of most to least effective.

Ford transmission fluid
Bronze shifter bushing on stock shifter
Aftermarket super stiff motor mounts.
Aftermarket poly diff mounts.
Removable brace that connects valve cover to strut tower to limit engine movement. Hello NHV though.
Lighter flywheel
Enable flat-shift and have it shut the motor OFF when you hit the clutch till the revs drop to say, 5,700 and then do a massive ignition retard. First part gets RPMs dropping quickly so your syncros can do their job. Second part keeps teh boost up while you're clicking it in gear.

I did all of those things, so speaking from experience of what worked and how well it worked. The ford fluid was like pouring in a bottle of magical syncros. Only problem with ford fluid was that after 6-7 passes it got too hot and didn't shift right anymore. Amsoil didn't completely quit working when hot like the ford fluid did, but it also didn't shift nearly as good. The real solution would have been a transmission cooler and run the ford fluid all the time.

If you can get it setup to where it shifts correctly, racing is a lot more fun. With all of the above done, it would shift perfect if I shifted at 7K for about 7 passes, then the ford fluid overheated. If I shifted at 8-9K, change 7 to 3 or 4 passes.

I had a slow day but I am ecstatic because my closed loop EBC is getting very close. I actually left closed loop on the entire time and didn't hit overboost once
I don't seem to be hitting my boost target around 5000 RPM, but I am hitting them up top. Without any oscillation Just to be a trouble maker my PID is 19p 21i 118d currently, still needs a little tweaking.
For the record I have reverted to open loop EBC after the first pass every time since I modified my wastegate can, until today so I am happy to finally have my modded can under control, even if I was a slug. The blue Ford RS was down to 14.25 tonight.

I have never seen a replacement time slip before, but something strange happened on my 3rd pass?

Busted... The Chips were there today. They actually participate in the "beat the heat" program where high school kids get to race law enforcement officers and ride along if they want. Once in awhile they let us race the heat, but it is very unusual.

Post your tune and logs of the EBC from the track if you have it.
