If you mean more boost at higher RPM, I am still working on the characterization/analysis for that. The basic idea is sound so it is just a matter of looking at the details. It is tempting to just try it but I am exercising caution since 'just trying it' is why I have previously blown two other motors. More on that boost ramping thing later, do not hold your breath.

A/C coming soon, hopefully this weekend. My South Texas brethren can attest to the current significance of this.

Amen for ac. I am piecing my back together now as well. It didn't matter so much in the mountains.

I was wondering what you were going to do about the WI. I'll probably just get the 4 nozzles added on my DO kit and still modulate the pump. You were supposed to come up with some cool failsafe to run crazy timing that I could copy! I'm curious what DC you're running with those nozzles at the highest boost/RPM setting? I don't plan on anything above 18psi and am trying to figure out what nozzles to get for my water/meth injection.

Good numbers, so I'm eager to see what my little 1.6 will do.

So here is the latest deal with the WI system. I'll update there to keep from jacking this thread and to avoid redundancy.

Fixed the A/C FTMFW.

Isn't the car so much nicer to drive now?

I got the AC working in the LS car and it is nice pulling it in and out of the barn/shop :)

snakeeyes 07-09-2010 03:42 PM

Nice numbers. Corey has tuned a bunch of cars for me and he knows his stuff and is an all-around good guy. Besides, how can you not like a guy who shares his building with a liquor store?

Could you effectively autocross with the gt2871? Or, would you do much better with the powerband of the 2560?

I want the best trade off of max power (around 300) and midrange torque/low boost threshold.

ZX-Tex 07-14-2010 07:01 PM

I would definitely use a 2560 over the 2871 for auto-x. For a road course I would use the 2871 for the improved efficiency. Dual purpose (auto-x and road course) 2560.

Read up some more here and at miata.net as this has been discussed to death. Just do not get a 2554 unless you never plan to make big power.

dvcn autocrosses with a T3/4 and a zillion pounds of boost, on the crappiest tires you've ever seen. He will then turn around and run a 12.56 quarter. To top it off, his gauges have Hello Kitty faces on them. In other words, the perfect car. Perhaps he'll tell us how he does it (in another thread to avoid hijacking ZX's).

Hey I thought the small a/r is worthless on the GT28xx on a 1,8?

ZX-Tex 10-26-2011 07:02 PM

I would say 'worthless' is a gross overstatement. Others have used the 0.86 A/R housing, giving up 200-300 RPM in spool RPM for a bit more power at high RPM. Not a big deal, pick the one you like, the 2871 is awesome either way.

The car has been parted since I started this thread. But I drove the car that my old turbo system is in and it freaking rips. Love it, especially with the E85 fuel the owner is running. Spool is great and he does not even have an MBC in it yet.

Zx-Tex Your PMs are full.
Do you remember what trim you were running?

ZX-Tex 10-29-2011 04:03 PM

Yeah sorry my membership expired so I went from not to many PMs to way too many overnight.

IIRC I had the 56 trim with the 'anti-surge machining option' and the 0.64 A/R turbine housing with the internal wastegate. It was purchased from ATP through BEGI.
http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant...egory_Code=GRT

BEGI ported the wastegate and I never had problems with boost creep even at 300+ RWHP.

My built '99 with a 2871R .86 made the same power down low and 25whp more up top at the same boost level (305whp@18psi).
