Miotta dyno results

I wanted to get a baseline of the Miotta with the hurt turbine wheel before I replaced it with a new one.

Quick setup:
100% stock 1.6L w/ 93k
gt28rs with .84 turbine housing
Toyota COP conversion
Standalone Megasquirt
Custom intake manifold
Lovefab exhaust manifold w/ Tial 38mm wg
3" exhaust
10.3 psi slow creep to just about 11psi

Here is the the turbo btw....

Of note... I was running the highest Intake Temps i've seen... apparently dyno fans can't emulate driving (Drive home was 85deg, I was almost 100 on dyno)
Mikey (dyno/shop owner) mentioned dyno is probably ~2% high due to the format we had to use for a clean pull (rpm dialed in by gear)

I did not expect 230+ though :p

wtf did you do to that turbine? too much launch control?

For those that didn't follow my build thread.
Basically I bought it like that, unknown damage. Came off an Audi working fine... none of us had a clue it was like that. Either run too hot... or something ran through it. Doesn't smoke or whine or anything.. but it works.

I'm looking forward to getting lost spool back though when I put a new CHRA in.

they call that a 'clipped wheel' :giggle:

for flowwww.

JDMAflac 08-05-2008 11:04 PM

When do you plan on upgrading components?

Splitime 08-05-2008 11:06 PM

Not so much as an upgrade, but a repair. I'll be sending the turbo in for an exchange soon. Few weeks? Then its time for retune and more boost.

Dave,

Nice numbers on a "hurt" turbo! Are you still running stock exhaust cam timing too?? Where did you get the dyno testing done?

Mitch

Impressive..

Heyo! Completely stock cam timing. Fairly sure its the original timing belt too :p

Dyno'd over at Pro Function in Burr Ridge. Used to be called Factory Five when they were in Arlington Heights.

So when is the new CHRA coming in?

When I sell a few more things to fund it... and get unlazy and remove the current chra :p

What's up with the stupid dyno dynamics default x axis numbers?
3800, 4400, ...

No clue. The let off moment is also 7200rpm not the actual indicated. Having done the dyno in a setup based off of rpm vs gearing... it wasn't 100% dead on. Had issues getting a clean rpm signal. Typically this specific dyno sees about a 2% higher reading done this way.

I kind of suspect it was my rear wheels... no hubcentric rings... and they are off a bit right now.. was too lazy to realign them ahead of time.. didn't even think about it :p Its movement on the dyno, was translated into the rollers and into the dynos brain.... brain bumps...

Nice turbine. :(

Good numbers though.

m2cupcar 08-06-2008 08:48 AM

Nice job Dave - I think a new turbine wheel will show a good improvement in the HP curve right after your torque peak. That's where I saw the most improvement from a similar change.

Braineack 08-06-2008 08:48 AM

aw, your hurt turbo numbers are WAY better than mine, looks like you're just missing spool...once it starts spinning it looks like it's doing its job just fine.

Splitime 08-06-2008 09:26 AM

Heh, that reminds me... gotta edit the signature... need a +230rwhp in there ;)

I bet next time it will look like this:

Had a minute to combine a few datalog snapshots.

Has anyone else noticed that you can't put multiple vertical lines and get extra datapoints on screen in MLV anymore? I swear you used to be able to...

johndoe 08-06-2008 10:13 AM

It's kind of hard to tell how much without verticle line on it but why it looks like you're leaning out a decent amount between 1 and 9 psi. I guess at that point you're still only at a couple psi so it shouldn't be an issue, but still shouldn't it be decending steadily?
