Exclamation E-Manage Gold upgrade? Software or hardware?

Found this pdf file that states some changes must be made on the circuit board to make it a Gold, in other words so the software and hardware are compatible.

Well, it was extremely difficult and nerve wrecking, covered all the chips with black electrical tape, sharpened the tip of the solder stick, and hands on...

Now it has a K right beside the 1.40 version.

Displays all additional maps, acceleration, second injectors, etc...

Still hunting for a used old laptop with serial port as I am still having issues with the serial to usb converter.

Found a person who sells the USB to USB cable for the EMB, but charges 50 mwith the software, told him/her I just want the cable, still waiting for his/her response, else searching for a laptop.

The 1.49 firmware upgrade gave all the same additional features as the Gold mod. That is what Olderguy meant.

You should be able to use a Serial->USB adapter. The issue I see most people having is that they are running 64 bit Vista and can't get it to work (as the adapter drivers and GRreddy drivers are 32 bit only). I personally run a XP 32 bit virtual machine on my computer for tuning. Check out VMWare or VirtualBox to see what I mean.

One thing I am curious about Messiahx, how do I know the settings I am doing are really taking effect on the piggy back.

Let me explain myself, right now I have the piggy back with the basic VAF cable connected, no other wires installed be it ignition, injectors or pressure sensor. Then I open the software, Support Tools, and open ignition maps, make some changes and then tell it to communicate.

I thought that because it has no wires connected that it would not let me make changes in the software or that when telling it to send the info to the piggy back it was going to say no ignition wires connected or detected. I know I do not have it connected, but what if they were connected, there is no difference between the two.

On an Apex SAFC, if map sensor is connected, then that feature is enabled, the same goes for TPS percentage settings.

With the EManage I can change TPS low and high points, etc, but there is no TPS cable connected to it. An Apex shows a correction digital display, I can make changes on low and high throttle position settings, but when I start to run the car (if I disconnect the High tps cable) then the corrections are display for low only.

On a EMANAGE I can select Trace Mode, open Ignition parameters, no cables connected but when the car starts running it shows where is the correction is been done on trace mode, in reality nothing is happening as no cables are plugged.

Why do I bring this up?

Because I read that if the changes were not made on the hardware side, even if version 1.49 shows all the features that it would be possible the settings will not work...

I think that depended on when your hardware was produced.... My emanage is on 1.49, but did not do the hardware mod. To my knowledge, it seems to work with the maps that I need to use with the autotune.....

I've thought about doing the hardware mods, but its never been a priority since I have the functionality that I need....

I do recall reading though that some of the earlier units, didn't work, and display the 1.49 maps without the hardware mods though...... So I always figured there was some revisional changes made... depending on production date.
