Default EMB on 99

Hi guys, i am really feeling the need to turbo my car and dont have any engine management. looking to push 6-8 pounds of boost on my 99.
My friend is willing to sell me his EMB for really cheap. What else am i going to need to do the install? I am assuming I can just splice in the wires into the stock ecu harness? Are there instructions available online?
Is there a boomslang harness that I can pick up so i dont need to cut up my stock harness?
I also saw that some have the o2 signal modifer. is this necesary? Can I avoid paying 105 and having to get it from fm? Maybe make my own?
Anything else I need?
Thanks guys!

for 6-8psi this would be THE EASIEST fuel management to install/tune:
https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t31070/
7 wires to splice in and 3 ***** to tune. Install and tune within about 30 minutes if you really tried..02 signal modifier built in

as far as EMB I have no Idea so I'll let the pro's chime in

yea i actually have a voodoo box but the thing is... i really dont want to mess with the timing wheel... from what i understand it will be necesarry to install the timing wheel as well to pull timing and it seems like a pain to install, correct me if i am wrong.

Many have gotten away without using the timing wheel. an intercooled setup running fairly rich afr just may get away without it. Not sure on this. Only reason I wont be using mine is because I am going with big injectors and high boost.

dude the zoom3 is a ******* voodoo box without the timing wheel. I would never in a million years pay the kind of money they want for it. Ok so you can retard timing electronically without having to install a timing wheel... so what? for the ridiculous price they want for it all it can do is 8psi on stock injectors and cant advance timing? crap..
for that price just build an ms (as many here will tell you) or for a couple more hundred buy the new adaptronic.

If you want some great input about emb just contact Joe Perez. He's the man.

or check out the emb thread in here that pretty much breaks everything down to the last detail.

i already tried the ms route and dont want to do that again. i would get the exede or hydra but they are crazy expensive. i wasnt even really able to get much info for the timing wheel install, the instructions wherent really included..
hopefully someone will chime in with the o2 clamp solution for the emb. that would be nice as well since i will be able to also go with larger injectors and a bit more boost.
i just want to turbo already.

I also have a 1999 I've been using a EMB for over a year and It works great !
you can advance or retard your timing upgrade injectors by 50% which will put you over the 200hp range also due to the NB's higher fuel pressure 360cc for example become 412cc I'am running 210whp 180tq on 9psi with 360cc from a 323GTX , by olderguys autotune and a boomslang harness and your good to go.

as far as the boomslang goes... my friends emb was used on a supra... if i buy the boomslang, am i going to have to solder the emb to the harness? wouldnt it be easier to just wire the emb to the ecus harness? if i go the boomslang route, how do i know where to plug the emb wires to the harness?

also, are you not using the o2 clamp? is this not necessary?

i just read the autotune sticky.. still a few questions. once this is wired in, does it really not need tunning? this sounds too good to be true!
otherwise, i would need the harness, E-Manage Plug and Play Harnesses,
180, and the autotune.. this will be 300 more that i have to spend on the emb.
how easy to get this setup running?

The boomslang is a pnp harness all you have to do is unplug the emanage harness from the emanage and toss it, plug the boomslang into the emanage unit and the other end into the stock ecu no cutting no splicing it took me 20 min. from start to start up. or you could splice into the stock harness I chose not to do this just in case the emanage ever failed I could just plug the stock ecu back in and I would'nt be stuck on the side of the road. you will need a 0/2 clamp one from FM or olderguys . You will also need a usb to serial connector cable if you want to tune it by a laptop ( bought mine from Office Max for $18.00) also do you have the software (support tool) CD ? As far as setting it up to run its real easy because your base map is the stock map, tunning by a laptop you would just zero out everything then start from there. PM olderguy he is the king when it comes to the EMB and is real helpful.

cool. sounds like a plan. how much splicing is it actually? where can i find the instructions as to what to splice and where? i really dont want to spend extra almost 200 for the pnp harness.... i think my friend has the software for the emb, but if not, can i download it online or do i need to buy it? i have the cable to interface with the pc, thats not a problem.
thanks for all ur help!

Yes, you need the resistor (it comes with the EMB) if you bought it new.
not sure what to tell you on how to splice it into the ecu I did'nt take that route. Do a search for that info. it is somewhere on this site I saw it last year ? that is the wiring part or a link on how to find it. Good Luck !

K. Soo I ordered the boomslang. I don't know if the emb will come with the resistor because my friend was using it on his supra. I can get the 1k resistor but not sure were it goes. The link that I posted has not very clear pics! If anyone can point out were the resistor goes, I would greatly appreciate it. Its in the emb though right? Not the stock ecu?

The resistor goes on the emanage, you can solder it inside or install it in line (outside) the unit I put mine inside, Do a search for emanage NB resistor mod theres a link to a 24/7 mazda site that shows where to solider the resistor inside. Don't know about voodoo box thing , sometimes it doesent pay to be cheap its easier to buy the right stuff the first time, I bought the F/M 0/2 clamp 2 years ago set it once and haven't had to touch it, its worth it to me , but thats just me.
