lol... Thats a terrible idea. Target has Asus 10.1" netbooks for $180 right now... $80 more for 4 times the computer. (tho they may all be gone now)

It's still quite common in embedded computing. We just transitioned the controller in our audio consoles from the old AMD Elan x86 platform to a new Atmel ARM9-based platform, and decided to stick with CE again, since it's just so bloody convenient. It's still being actively developed and supported by MS- presently we're on 6.0.

Agreed. But then, I don't try to understand some folks around here. 'Specially the ones who still seem to want an ebay-sourced turbo kit over a Bell-S.

Several Linux distros support ARM processors, most notably Debian, however there isn't a Sun JVM compiled for ARM that I'm aware of. There is the Blackdown JRE for ARM ( I believe it is based on Java 1.4) but I'm not certain as to whether or not that will run TunerStudio.

There is always the possibility of running MegaTunix, but I'm not sure of its compatability with MS2/3.

At this point it might make more sense to wait for TS-Android to come out (if it indeed does) and pick up something like this:

Of course, if you are going to spend that kind of cash, you might as well just buy a cheap netbook (although for the record, TS just doesn't look all that great on a tiny 10" screen for those of you who haven't seen it, and I'm hoping that the android version will take screen size into account)

 

Hmm. You're right in that the specs on the CVS page claim an ARM-11, I'd been going off of some external reviews I'd found on the machine which said it had a C7, which would have meant you could run Win98 / 2000 / XP on it. On further reading however, it seems those reviews pertained to the old version (which was grey in color).

Never tried TS, but I have run MegaTune on a 10" screen (1024x600) and it's perfectly usable:

 

I don't have my netbook on me to take a screenshot right now, but some of the child forms in TS don't scale very well which ends up leading to some options being cut off. The majority of it works just fine (the dashboard scales very well) but for example the Autotune feature doesn't display any logs at the bottom which makes it sort of hard to watch actual AFRs in the process.

EDIT:I should also note though that this is under linux, which has a long nasty history of Java GUI apps not playing nicely.

i ran tunerstudio on an eee901 (1.6ghz atom, one of the earliest aka slowest of the netbooks) -- it was fine.

I run TS on a celey 566mhz laptop and 256MB of ram
Anything netbook modern day should easily run without problems.

 

I personally looked into getting something working on the android platform last year. The biggest problem that I found was communicating between the phone and MS. Last I looked the type of USB port that was on the android devices could not be used. So you would have to do some sort of blue tooth connection.

The biggest problem I had with tuning on a friends netbook was simply screen resolution. I could not make TS big enough to see everything that was going on in the VE Analyzer tab.
