Flyin Miata MSD Ignition instructions.
Hi everyone:
I have been contemplating on getting a Flyin Miata MSD ignition control unit.
The specs read it will retard a maximum of 6 degrees and the system starts retarding the time from 4 psi.
I called Flyin Miata Tech, he guided me to the support section with all the pdfs, but not even me could find an electronic manual.
One of the questions I asked him was; was it 1:1 retaion? If for each pound one, two or three degrees?
He could not answer, plus he also could not find an instructions manual. Can anyone help me find the booklet online?

Well, after much waiting and so many replies from the Miata community I went to the adapt and overcome...
It is 6 degrees, each pound of boost retards 3 degrees, max out at 5-6 psi. Well, its better than nothing at all...

Another option is the MSD Boost Control unit specifically designed for the Miata. The Bipes actually originated as a mod for this unit for added adjustability. They can still be had, but usually for the same price tag as the Bipes itself. The MSD unit retards the timing 3° per pound of boost pressure with no more that 6° of retard being allowed. When no boost pressure is present, the ignition runs at the factory timing. These settings are fixed and cannot be adjusted. With that said, you can still run your Miata advanced to 14° of timing and when it boost it will retard back to a safe 8°. If knock is still present then set your back back a little. It's a little basic but it gets the job done.

A friend mentioned to use some kind of pressure relief valve so it slows the timing adjustments at a later time, instead of 4 psi... or maybe use a bleeder valve to stop boost readings to the unit.

While not the best, it does work fine and is easy to use. I made 200whp @ 10psi with one.
