Default First impressions of BPSX D1 Wideband Controller

My 14point7 Spartan Lambda Controller took a dumb only after about 6 months of use. It just started reporting 14.7 no matter what, tried to switch out to a new sensor no use. Toast. I did have it mounted in the engine bay, but I didn't think that should have been an issue as it looked sealed pretty well.

I found this Ohio based company that makes a wideband controller that there is virtually no info about their products except for a few forum threads asking about it. They say it comes with lifetime warranty on the controller, I figured what the heck.

It arrived today, though I was not able to hook it up yet, I have some unpacking photos.

Just out of the bubble wrap envelope. Comes with not one, not two but THREE stickers. Very impressed by sticker count

Box unpacked, only contained instructions and a business card and business card magnet. Looks like they controller was supposed to be in there but taken out as I ordered the option with the LED screen, which comes pre wired, which is kind of nice.

Instructions:

Close up of the controller itself:

LED screen:

Comes with connector prewired for BOSCH sensor. Wasn't even mentioned AFAIK. Nice touch for plug and play ease:

'Murica!

One of the casing screws was only half way in, open invitation:

Board:

Close up of chips:

Looks to be hand soldered. I didn't notice the yellow residue on the solder joints until I looked at the pictures, I guess they didn't clean it off?

The case seems to be an ABS plastic of sorts, should hold up pretty well. The build quality is OK but it could be better. I hope I won't need to use the lifetime warranty, but if I do, I hope they are not gonna be gimmicky with that.

I will update once I hook up my sensor to it.

You left out the most important part of any product review.

Pretty good value if you ask me.

I actually had the chance to wire it in and it seems to be working great. Setup was easy, calibration was quick and the gauge output matches the output i see in megasquirt (setup as techedge). Warmup time is not bad, I will time it soon and post some pics of installation.

Overall i'm happy with the purchase so far as it works great.

I wonder how accurate it will be when reading with Tunerstudio. Seems like most widebands have some issues getting properly matched. I'll be watching this.

Is there more to it than this?
