FM link question
all that is for is the map to get a current reading of the barometric pressure outside. it should not affect start up. if your in such a hurry that 3 seconds is gonna kill you, don't wait, just start it up. i usually can't tell a difference if i wait or not. but i always wait the 3 seconds.
I don't think that there is a way around it. It waits for the fuel pump relay to click from what I can remember.
It was fun on my first track day when I spun the car in turn 1 at Barber and wound up sitting in the middle of the line. My instructor: "Start the car, start the car, start the car!" Me: (Just be patient, it will start in a few seconds.) Instructor: (You need to change that!).
Call FM, maybe there is a way to bypass it at the harness.

do you have the latest chip? the later ones had an improved start time IIRC.
My wait is maybe 2 seconds at most, actually if I don't wait, it will start right away but I wait until I see the numbers pop up on the touchscreen, meaning it has a map reading.

I posted in reference to a 5 second wait as originally posted. OP makes it sound like he has to wait 5 seconds for the car to start after he begins cranking.
and what he meant was "I got to wait for like 5 seconds before I start the car up"
My mkII is maybe 2 seconds for fuel prime.

If you stall the car you can just twist the key and start it up, no need to wait. First start takes about 2-3sec for the ECU to boot up. You don't have to wait for the fuel pump to stop running, you just need to wait for you keypad to display.
my understanding was that it will start if you just turn it on and go...waiting for the keypad to display just makes sure the ecu has a good map signal but in an emergency, it will fire.
I still wonder what gen chip the OP has.
