Default How much for a ecu?

Okay so my mechanic suggest that hes gonna buy me a new ecu since he swaped out my old motor and put in a used motor but lower mileage and the car wont start. I told him what happened that night my car died and he said it might of been my ecu. How much does a ECU run for a 1990 miata? Thanks.

Take your signature's advice. Dont be that guy.

OP: A quick ebay search shows that it is going to cost 100 dollars or less for a stock 90-93 ecu. If your mechanic will allow you to supply it, I would go that route. He will most likely mark up whatever price he gets, so save yourself some cash . The only thing you have to consider is the fact that some 93 ECUs utilized sequential injection (california cars). If I were you, I would post up a WTB ad in the classifieds as I'm sure there are a few of us around with our stock ECUs collecting dust who would let them go for cheap( I would sell you mine, but it lacks a connector and is pulled apart so I can reverse engineer some of the circuits )

ok, so let me see if I understand what you are trying to say. Your motor died while you were driving so your mechanic simply put in a used motor. The car still won't start and now he says you need a new ecu as well?
FWIW, ecu's dying is something very rare. Try finding a someone with a miata and put your ecu in his car. I bet it'll fire right up.
