Question Looking for "THE" tuner on the east coast...

NEED ADVICE!!!!
Looking for recommendations for a shop to dyno tune my turbo VVT Miata. I believe there is a lot of magic to be found with the VVT and boost. I want to find someone who knows how to unleash that magic. I am in NC but will travel 12 hours in any direction if I think they will do a great job. I have read about det cans and feel like they should be used because it could save the engine, am I right? Or is it possible for someone to "know what they are doing " without them? Thanks for your input.

DIYAutoTune may or may not be willing to tune your car. I would shoot them an email and check on it. If they are not willing to I believe they know of another shop in the Atlanta area that they pass people onto for tuning.

Balanced Performance in Sugar Hill, GA has a good reputation.

Pro Dyno in Fort Mill, SC claims to be able to tune megasquirt.

I'd want a shop that's familiar with MS3 AND tuning VVT. or, learn it myself so i don't have to rely on other to blow up my car.

IF going to the place that builds megasquirts is an option (DIY) , I would most definitely choose that option.

EFI Analytics is in Huntersville, NC. If they don't offer tuning services, maybe they have a preferred shop they can recommend.

This is probably beyond obvious, but If I was paying money for someone to tune my car it'd be someone very very familiar with all the DETAILS of your MS3 rather than someone that just knows how to adjust a fuel and timing map. Those two are the easy part. Dialing in perfect startup, all the trims and compensations that will keep your car starting perfect in the hot and the cold, idling perfect in the hot and cold, with high electric load and low, etc etc etc is the extremely hard and tedious part that almost no one really masters unless they know your actual ecu inside and out. If I could pay someone a couple hundred bux to dial those things in on mine FLAWLESSLY, I seriously would. Wouldn't even care about the power portion of the tune, since I can dial that in within like 30 minutes. The "other stuff" takes days.

if I didn't have 100 reasons I wasn't able to, I'd probably do it for a lot of money. I've got experience with MS3X and VVT and unicorns.

Balanced was THE place when Ed was there. He initially tuned my car years ago and I left it on that tune until I upgraded to 2.7. I've been contemplating plugging my old maps over and trying them out, but have been warned that the gas in Oregon might not like it as much as the gas here in Atlanta. I don't believe Ed tunes cars there anymore, he just does racecar stuff now...but he is definitely a man who knows what Miatas like.
