Default Need help with LC-1: No signal

I have a Reverant-built MS2Extra in my -99 (USA-model) and a LC-1 connected to it. The setup has been working well until recently when I tried to use autotune again. I noticed that autotune says: "O2 out of range". I then realised that the A/F gauge on the Tuner Studio dashboard was steady at 12.1, dispite the actual LC-1s A/F gauge (in a dash board went in the car) showing something completly different. The only time the tuner studio gauge moves is when I crank the car: 14.8, which I believe equals current=0 (makes sense).

If I set the tuner studio gauge to "exhaust gas oxygen2", I get a volt value that does change, aka isn't a steady value.

I'm terribly noobish at this and not sure where to start. Some help would be much appreciated.

Connect to the LC-1 through its serial port and LogWorks, and see what LogWorks reports as far as AFR values as concerned.

Then reprogram the LC-1 outputs, just in case the EEPROM on the unit was corrupted.

If that doesn't help, verify the output voltage of the LC-1 that goes to the MS2 is the one that is supposed to be (around 2.4V for 14.7 on the 0-5V -> 10-20AFR settings).

Thanks for the advice - Will do and report back.

But of course, none of the households laptops have such a serial port. Got to do some shopping.

Didn't you get the mini-jack to DB9 with the LC-1? It comes with the LC-1 as standard.

I seem to remember the advice I gave you over the phone (connect to the LC1 and ask what it's doing)...

You don't have to have Tunerstudio connect to the MS at the exact same time (I assume that you have the standard serial om the DIYPNP) you do the LC1 check/reprogramming.
The LC1-Logworks might be less picky about the USB/Serial than the MS-TS, and anyone you find in you local supermarket can work.
I have the local Innovate reseller closeby if you need anything (e.g. MTX-L if the LC1 output is busted)...

Sure, but all your answers are so damn hi-tech. Reverant told me HOW to do it right in his first post, since he thru much painful experiences (trying to help me with the MS) knows how fundamentally tech-challenged I am.

Since I've moved twice since I bought the LC-1, only the gods know where the stuff that came with it is. A look in the online manual reveals that I am missing the "program cable", which probably is important here. I'll call the local Innovate reseller on monday and ask him to send me one.

Thanks for the help guys! To be continued...

I finally got the cables I needed today (the guy at the LC-1 reseller had forgotten to send them!) and hooked up the laptop to the LC-1. I've done the following
- Checked if the value shown in Logworks is the same as the gauge shows - Check
- Loaded new firmware into the LC-1 - Check
- Reprogrammed the outputs (factory settings) - check

Problem remains.

What is next? Break out the multi-tool and check the voltage of the wires to the MS2? I'm in a bit of a hurry now, since I leave for the next race on Thursday morning...

Disconnect wire from MS. Measure voltage on wire.

The LC-1 is powered by the same game port, so I opened the game port casing and measured from ground to the brown wire (right one?). I see 3,6volts as the AFR-gauge shows 18.

Need more measurements at another AFR?

Wait - you didn't do a firmware update by any chance, did you?

Yes, I did. I loaded "LC-1 firmware (1.10, released 10/2007) " from innovates webpage.

He means his MS, I believe, not the LC1.

What Scott said. Did you update the firmware on the MS? Or even play with the settings at Tools -> Calibrate AFR table?

yeah, you need reverant's custom firmware packages for his custom MS units.

No he doesn't - his is a simple DIYPNP with a voltage regulation circuit, not an enhanced unit.

Torkel, you need to recalibrate the MS AFR table. Tools -> Calibrate AFR and select the calibration that matches, hit Burn and start the car. The AFR gauge should now follow the DB gauge. You also need to recalibrathe CLT and IAT sensors.
