Default Speeduino PNP NB Miata bad Throttle Response

Hey guys,

I hope somebody can help me. I have two 1.6 NB Miatas, and I'm currently planning to turbo one of them. I also want to do that the low budget way. So I got a Speeduino PNP from RM electronics.
I have set all base settings for Injectors spark and I already have tuned it roughly, so I could narrow the options down.

Now the Problem I'm having right now (Which a few people seem to have aswell). Throttle Response is total garbage. There is a hesitation and a lean spike for about half a second. I've already tried to tune the AE for a few hours, and it did not do anything. The only time it gets better, is when the car is running VERY rich. (so AFR 9s). Then the Throttle response is as good as it is with the stock ECU. I've already asked a few People, and they don't know what's going on. They all had Experiences with MS and Speeduino but no one was able to help. I myself have a Passat 1.8T running Fine on an MS2 so i know how to tune a car roughly at least

Its not the fault of the Wideband. Using an AEM Uego. Tried a different uego. Same Problem and same measurements. Tried a different Speeduino, same issue. Even tried the other Miata, same issues, so it must be software wise. Hope somebody knows whats up.

I've attached the log (it's a bit lean up top, don't worry I have fixed it already)

Thanks in advance :-)

Post tune. I've been chasing a similar issue, I have a speeduino on a 1994 1.8 with the same wideband and not sure if it's my incompetence or an inherent property of tipping in from light throttle/low revs. Is it happening for you throughout the entire throttle/rev range?

It's frustrating because all of the other tunes/tutorials I see use different units, ours being a percentage and megasquirt being milliseconds or pulse width or something and the speeduino forums are not helpful.

Always post your tune when you ask a question like this.

What is your MAP sampling set to?

@Roland T. its up to around 4-5k rpm. but its worst at lower revs. Totally annoying especially since there goes a whack through the drivetrain which doesnt feel good...

@SpartanSV oh sorrry didnt know that, ive just attatched it now (hopefully )
Where can i set it and what should it be set to? My AE is set for TPS, not MAP. just FYI

Settings - Engine Constants - MAP sample method: switch to "instantaneous", made a big difference for me, when I was on speeduino

Yes, TPS AE was a big improvement. Ah, and play with duration a bit, but one step at a time.
I even think Speeduino was a bit easier to set up than my MS3

What helps most of the time is just lowering the threshold, TPSdot or MAPdot depending on what you're using for AE. I used TPS based before and had the same problem as you, most likely because my tps was acting funky. I switched to MAP based AE and no more problems.

I set my threshold to 50% MAPdot and it works perfect now. Might actually try lowering it even more.

Ive tried setting the duration. Did nothing. i think, it has anything to do with the AE itself.

I will try doint it with Map based, if i dont see a difference with the map sampling method adjusted.

My megasquirt was almost perfect on AE. Only thing i did, was a bit adjustment, as the engine was cold.

Without the new map sample method, TPS AE is just not usable

You're also going to want to crank the sensor filter way up when running instantaneous map sampling.

Datalog your MAP signal and make sure it's smooth. If the values are jumping around you need more filtering. I believe mine is nearly maxed.
