Is CHURBO.

It sounded like a diesel truck. Wasn't burning much oil... just leaking a lot of it.

Car ran like ******* due to other issues.

Yeahh... seems like it'd be easier and cheaper to just buy a Genius G540 at this point. $55 shipped, works with Windows 7, and is USB native.

So that'll happen. I'll donate the Pocket Programmer to a museum or something.

Side note: Transtronics DOES make a "new" version of the Pocket Programmer that is USB native.

It's $270.

I'm not actually planning on tuning with this thing. I just need to copy some chips. I just needed a burner so i could convert all 6 of my PFC FCONs (shown earlier in this thread) over to F2T usage, then sell 3-4 of them.

One IS going in the black car, though.

Speaking of which, i need to post more updates on the black car....

Doing things.

This motor was ******* disgusting.

I'm guessing the cam or crank seal was leaking. Or... both. Yep. I just cut off the timing belt because it was soaked in oil. **** re-using that thing even though it only had 10k miles on it.

Better than expected...

235k miles of abuse and boost. Still has crosshatching. Win.

Cleaning. 2 cans of degreaser, half a bottle of purple power, and 5 cans of brake cleaner later. I also noticed that someone went all Michael J. Fox on the tube of grey RTV on at some point.

This head is gross. Not using it.

Sure that thing wasnt rebuilt? Crosshatching looks awefully nice, and the grey RTV shows someone had it open.

I'm positive it's not. This is pretty consistent of what i've seen on these motors in the past with this kind of mileage and more. And it was DEFINITELY the original head gasket. Dear lord it was disgusting.

However, the oil pans are notorious for leaking on these, and the hilarious over-use of RTV indicates to me that someone was getting frustrated with an oil pan leak they hadn't been able to fix in the past.

This all said, the head i pulled off this thing is pretty fucked. I'll keep it around to rebuild/port/**** with on the side, but for now, i've got another fresh head laying around that will go on this block. In my experiences, a fresh head on a 200k mile motor typically represents a HUGE power gain over the previous old head.

I should have the motor re-assembled this coming weekend, then i can focus on cleaning up the wiring mess in the car, freshening the suspension (Addco front and rear sway bars, endlinks, and a set of Koni Yellows.), then it's time to mock up the turbo setup.

Oh, and apparently this car had an ACT Stage 3 clutch or something in it. So that's nice.

So... this is similar to modifying a 20 year old FWD DSM?

Yeahh... the motor was pretty awful.

As for the turbo manifolds... the shiny one is going on this motor. The tubular thingy majigger is a top mount RWD F2T manifold, "goes with" the flipped intake manifold on the bottom shelf of the parts washer.

The initial plan was to use those two on my 93 Miata, but 1) i highly doubt that intake manifold is fitting in a Miata engine bay, and 2) i'm pretty sure the entire turbo would be poking through the hood if i used the exhaust manifold.

There's a couple modified-for-t3 and/or external wastegate stock manifold laying around in there as well somewhere.
