ebay water pump trouble *pictar*

i bought a timing kit, water pump combo on ebay. i went to install it today and ran into a problem. the hole where the tensioner pulley mounts to is not threaded. it should be correct? here's a pic of the hole in question.

do you have some calipers you could measure the I.D. with? Could be as easy as getting a tap tapping it. Or does the bolt just slide through?

bolt slides right through. i thought about helicoiling it. but that sounds like too much trouble

That happened with the last one i bought to. I ended up just going to autozone to buy one.

WHAT ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT?????

I just installed mine a few days ago, its not threaded either. The bolt is long and goes all the way into the block.

JUST now went and checked my OEM stock one and its not threaded either. But my car is a 2000 so maybe that's the difference?

Either way neither one of mine is threaded and they both work.

That spot is threaded 100% of the time on a 1.6.

Maybe he purchased a water pump for a 1.8? Or they sent him one from a 1.8.

Oh yeah, i thought I remembered reading something about that, 1.8's go through and thread into the block. I think Ebay kits will always send you a 1.8 WP, that's the problem most people have.

this is a 1.8 from a protege. the hole is out past the block, so there is no way to thread a bolt into it.

I think I read about someone on M.net running into this when doing some random BP swap and they just used a bolt and nut on the backside of the water pump. Can't say for sure though.

i'm just going to get a longer bolt and put a nut on the back of it.

any problem with that that hasnt occured to me yet?

i think its because its for a 1.8l. I wrongly ordered a 1.8l too and it came unthreaded.
