Default 1991 VVT Swap Woes

Hi everyone,

I've finally finished my VVT swap and I got my car to start, but I'm running into a couple of issues that I can't explain. The only things that aren't stock about this motor are the upgraded Volvo valve springs, I'm using the 1.6 oil pressure sender, and I've swapped in a VICS manifold.

When I blip the throttle, as you can see at the end of the video, it holds the higher rpm for way too long. I'm running an MS3 Basic and it sees that the throttle is blipped as well, but the rpm stays high past that. This is with the transmission in neutral, so no momentum to kill.

Another thing is that when I give it a bit of load, you can hear this nasty rattling sound that I can't track down. I think it's detonation, but I'm running 93 octane and I'm using a base ignition map for a VVT engine. I even dialed down the ignition advance significantly with no changes.

I've had issues with my AFR readings being weird before from my wideband, but I've since fixed them and my car was running a bit rich during this entire time since it was still warming up.

Any ideas on what's going on? Let me know if you guys need more info.

I do find it interesting that it's seems louder when the camera is by the air filter, which happens as you walk up, and as you walk away. I would make sure your AIT hasn't fallen off inside the intake and into the engine, scope the cylinders, and cut the oil filter open and look for debris.

I should also note that OP is running at ~3 degrees timing due to ignition idle comp, still at ~1250rpm, and 0% idle duty. I suspect an intake leak, sorta hard to diag a high rpm hang with that going on.

I'll try to look more into a possible intake leak when I'm near my car again (not happening for a while unfortunately :( ) but I did bring one of the intake tubing with me to put on an IAT bung and I can confirm the IAT is still there. I just bought a borescope so I'll be using that too when I get back to the car.
