2.0L or Turbo 1.8L

I was wondering what your opinions were about a stroked 1.8 to a 2.0, or a turbo 1.8L? Which one would you choose?

thirdgen Sep 7, 2011 12:19 PM

turbo'd 1.8
it's cheaper, and easier.

Is this a troll thread?
Seriously.

1.6

kfran Sep 7, 2011 12:29 PM

No, this is not a troll thread. I just don't know which route to go with my motor.

+1.

No one can seriously be dumb enough to go to miataturbo.net and ask if we prefer turbos or not. :ugh2:

Stroker motor is 8-10k. You'll make like 150whp tops without a lot of headwork, supporting mods, etc.

Or you could turbo the car, spend half of that on a really solid turbo setup, and end up with 225whp.

Up to you.

But what about teh throttle responsez and such?

hustler Sep 7, 2011 01:33 PM

Where is the supercharger option?

supercharger > 1600* turbocharger intake air temps

Would that be capable with a 7000$ budget?

Well, for $7k you could do a proper turbo encabulator with high-speed blue tooth Kanouter valves, which is pretty new on Miatas, but Supra guys got into this years ago. PM Savington if you're interested.

Last I checked Savington was the only source for the kanouter vlaves. Very ncessary for proper tip in response when you're hitting the g spot

I would go for a nice $30,000 naturally aspirated build. The 1.5 makes the most horsetorqes

Sounds good to me. I'm sure it would be nice and snappy.

I bet your mother was a teen-mom, right?

It depends on what you want to do with the car. Are you going to the track or are you a hard-parking troglodyte?

No, what is the point of being an asshole to someone on a forum?

Savington Sep 7, 2011 02:40 PM

On a 7k budget, you can put together a pretty damn nice turbo setup. How much power are you looking for, what do you want to do with the car, etc?

What year is your car, where do you live, etc?
