Interesting loss of tq down low.

Might not be what I am looking for afterall since I do autoX and need that tq to pull out of low speed/low rpm corners :(

That's going to happen. It is a very similar setup to Toyota's TVIS system on Toyota's 4AG's and 3SGTE. The reduced intake runner area creates faster air velocity and more torque at lower RPM. Looking at the 01+ manifold, I think it'll offer the best of both worlds. You can open up the plenum volume AND retain the plate system to increase low end torque.

The plates do not offer that much of a restriction. Their cross sectional area does not effect the flow enough to really matter at higher RPM. With a properly designed manifold, you would barely see any top end loss and nice gains in low end torque using a variable runner system.

Yah Im not terribly impressed by that dyno, maybe just building a manifold from scratch is a better idea

If anyone is thinking about doing this you might want to buy it. I gutted mine and it is a fair amount of work, say 8-10 hours even with a die grinder and the proper die tools.

I do actually. I have to check with a local guy first if he wants it for a 2.0 built motor. Otherwise, I'll post it for sale here. Damm, I have a lot of stuff that I have to post for sale. I guess it's time to get in the garage and start taking pics.
