Default Engine Rebuild Sanity Check

Looking to pull the motor and transmission here in the upcoming months to do the timing belt, clutch, and coolant reroute. I'm planning on going turbo some time in the future so I figured I might as well rebuild/add rods while it's out. I put together a parts/price list and I was wondering if there is anything I am missing that I should be doing or anything that is unnecessary/overkill. It's an NB2, 6 speed at 75k miles.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

Also, for the coolant reroute I plan on using the earlier head gasket. Is there a need to do any more than clean up the surfaces of the block and head before putting the new gasket on?

If you are adding rods and pistons, I highly suggest taking it to a machine shop and having them install everything. Basically all you need for that is a short block, crankshaft, rods, pistons, piston rings, bearings, main studs. The machine shop will machine everything, install the rods and pistons, and they will deck the block, so you dont need to worry about cleaning that or anything. I would suggest having the head milled as well to insure they mate adequately. It would be a good idea to get a spare block to have built to eliminate downtime.

Doubtful. The miata is the most powerful car I've owned/built. Your Mazdaspeed 6 had twice the powers.

I 2nd BE Oil Pump, and add to you new water pump. And yea a machine shop built my motor recently. I only had to fix cam/crank seals when I got an oil leak. It's been smooth sailing since. Just need a megasquirt now after I pass emissions.

I have a water pump on the list, are you saying get something better than GMB?

It sounds like the consensus is the BE Oil Pump is about the only thing missing. I don't plan on doing pistons since it sounds like they can handle quite a bit more power than the rods. The plan is a GT2560R turbo down the road.

Just spend the extra to get it done. You don't want to curse your laziness later down the road.
