cam questions

I did just come across these measurements in Kieth Tanners book; measured in thousandths:
- OEM 1999-2000
- intake: 248 degrees @ .003" 204 degrees @ .050" .326" lift
- exhaust: 251 degrees @ .003" 210 degrees @ .050" .350" lift
- 2001-05 vvt
- intake: 263 degrees @ .003" 208 degrees @ .050" .370" lift
- exhaust: 251 degrees @ .003 210 degrees @ .050" .350" lift
- 2004-05 msm
- intake: 248 degrees @ .003 207 degrees @ .050" .345" lift
- exhaust: 251 degrees @ .003 210 degrees @ .050" .350" lift

defiantly do shim under bucket conversion at the same time as the cams, you can take advantage of higher lift cams when you do that. Something in the 260 advertised range should get you a decent bit of power up top without making your car gutless in the mid range.
I have made the mistake of over caming a boosted car and the results are not great, you get a drag motor that makes wicked power in a 2000 rpm window.
Get adjustable gears and degree in the cams, this will allow you to adjust your cam centerline like a V8 but also adjust your lobe separation angle.
Web made the billet cams for my K24 motor and they are very high quality, I would see what they can do for you. When I had a BP I used Integral cams, but they have since gone out of business.

Question: I'm having trouble figuring out max lift. My springs allow a max net lift of 11.5mm/ 0.453". My difficulty is in measuring for the cam lobe to lifter bore clearance. I can get a feeler gauge into the front side... which shows .035"/0.81mm clearance with oem lift. However, the back side is shrouded by the casting edge. OEM lift of 8.76mm + .81mm available clearance = approx 9.57mm max lift before hitting the bore. Is there max lift suggestion for an oem base circle that won't interfere? I wonder how much operational clearance is needed to allow for expansion? If a large lift is desired, then is it better to go with a smaller base circle cam vs. clearancing the lifter bore?
Sixshooter: Yes, thank you. I do already use the squaretop.
