AN converted coolant reroute brought to you by a 1.6L powered FC
14 Attachment(s)
well, I swapped a 1.6L into an FC with a TII transmission using our adapter plate. Well anyway, I did a vmount setup and needed AN coolant lines and rerouted it myself. These are pics of the finalized setup, I'm just working on building an all aluminum fan shroud to hold a taurus fan. Anyways here are some pics!
Started my day out installing this thing, It made my life 100x easier (Thanks Gerald!) and now I finally have one https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 This came in the mail https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 Then I got to work and ended up with this: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 Back of the head, sweet coolant reroute thing: I used the thermostat cover from the front outlet on the back of the head and welded these two fittings to it. works perfectly. I don't have a thermostat in the system but I have a little bit of restriction in the plate at the front of the motor and this is a racecar so I'm not entirely worried about it. However, those of you who really car can buy inline tstat holders, like the one 949 sells, and put that in the middle of the hose somewhere if you REALLY wanted one. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 Also, I deleted the front water neck so that the motor looks better. 30MM freeze plug for 1.6L front water neck delete I assume same for 1.8 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1354503937 Next step is fuel lines and finishing up fabricating the diff mount, putting the gas tank back in the car and finishing my radiator shroud. Drive shaft, Then wiring takes place and I can start the car, and probably do burnouts if it makes enough power. |

also, can i get rid of all the shit underneath the throttle body? It's a race car, i don't need fast idle, warm up bullshit. The IACV is already plugged. Do i need those other things?

I'm feeling really stupid right now and maybe it's because it's late, but i'm having a hard time wrapping my head around your coolant overflow tank setup.
Looks great though!!! :) What size lines did you end up using? |
its not an overflow, its a pressurized swirl pot to bleed out any air bubbles3 lines, one from the top of the radiator, one from the highest point in the system to the top two ports, the lowest port is the coolant return into the pump/lowest side of the system.
Swirl pot is -6AN Radiator is -16AN |
neat alternative to any of the coolant re-routes i have been looking at.
|
this is my kinda reroute. everything AN..
|
Yes you can get ride of the valve on the bottom on the tb. It's removed from my street/track car and no issues yet.

Not Mocal fittings.

Look like Fragola, though...
|
I wouldn't use Mocal anything if it were given to me for free.

Their oil coolers are outrageously priced, I have built Mocal fittings before and was not impressed with their quality and how they went together. I guess it's just one of those things I get tired of hearing about, how great Mocal is. Why is it so great? People have this attitude if it's not "x brand" it's shit. Fragola makes fantastic products and have great prices, just like TruCool oil coolers, they are a fantastic product and cost 80% less than a Mocal/Setrab cooler. My rant is not saying Fragola makes the best fitting, but they surely aren't "poverty fittings." I'd call Mocal poverty fittings before I'd call Fragola that.

Probably because they work, unlike TruCool. I've owned both. You get what you pay for.
