I am going to put an '02 vvt-engine from a donor-car into my'97 NA. I have been reading many of the posts in the "The Definitive"VVT swap into 90-97 chassis" Megathread" and also been readingsome of the posts in this thread, so using the stock ECU from my '97 NA is outof the question.


But i have not found any information about using a stock ECUfrom a newer car with vvt. There might be some good reasons for this, but i am oblivious.


I live in Norway, where there are strict rules about anymodification of motor vehicles. I have obtained permission to change theengine, but on some conditions, including use of the ECU from the donor vehicle.The car will be the subject of thoroughly examinations by the approvalauthorities when the swap is done, so i hope it is possible to use the ECU frommy '02 donor-car without to much difficulty.


I will appreciate your views on this.

The good reason is because you would have to figure out how to adapt in the wiring harness from the newer car into the 97. It would not be impossible, but it would not be trivial at all either.

So it would not be possible to use the '97 harness and modify a Boomslang harness, for use with the '02 ECU?

I mean you would have to do lots of splicing in the engine bay, then build the boomslang harness from scratch. I guess it would be possible, I have no clue if anyone has ever tried it, or what issues you may run into.

I don't want to be the first to try this. Reading (and understanding) wiringdiagrams is not my favorite activity. I guess i will go for a standalone, and hope for the best.
