Do I want a 2560?
#41
Or am I going to get bored with it? Currently have a 2554 at 12.5 psi on my built 1.6. Tune is decent but I haven't been to a dyno yet. I turned it up to 12.5 psi a few weeks ago and it felt awesome but now Im bored again. Am I going to be happy with a 2560 at 15 psi? What kind of power could I expect? FYI I love the insta spool of the 2554 and have read that the 2560 is maybe slighty slower.
Supporting equipment includes:
MS
Rx7 550's
29x9x3 IC
Begi cast mani
Begi 2.5 to 2.75 dp
3" mandrel bend exhaust
I do plan on getting one of those new Begi IM's if they proove worthwhile.
What say you?

If you are only wanting 250hp, I would keep the 2554, the money isn't worth the differance. But if you are going to push 300hp, go for the 2560. Or mabe larger?

the tater didn't start to shine until I hit 230whp on the dynydynamics rollers. I didn't smile until 13psi or so, which was about 240whp. After 13psi, the whp and torque increased significantly with each 1/2 psi increase.
If you want the typical Dynojet #'s, add 10% to my whp values.

I called up BEGI today at lunch and ended up talking to Corky. After providing some context by explaining that I am about to have a built motor, and am one of the slightly off kilter crowd (speed junkie motorcycle road racer), I told him what my thoughts were. The short story on the discussion is he told me the same thing he mentioned over in a thread on m.n, that the S4 manifold in their experience, with their cars, lets one go up about '1 to 1.5 turbo sizes' but still retain about the same spool. So he agreed that either the 2860 or the 2871 could work, not be too ridiculous, and not sacrifice too much on spool (boost versus rpm) to the 2560 with the cast manifold. In other words, it would not be un-streetable.
So, maybe I am nuts, but now I am really seriously thinking about it. And I might really be selling my excellent and totally performance-acceptable 2560/cast mani/DP like real soon. It all depends on what it is going to cost me to do it. Hint: Make me a good offer, and I may go for it

the reason I support the 2871 is because I know what one step bigger can do.
with the 2876 i hit target boost at 3750 and that's 200 ft-lbs of torquez.
the 2871 will be a better comp/turbine match and spool better. if I gained 500 rpm of spool, that'd be dreamy.

OK I did it. I ordered the 2871 with the anti-surge housing, the S4 manifold, and the DP, all from BEGI. This is going to be sweet...
I already sold off my GT2560/mani/DP to someone I know locally. He wanted it all and we reached a fair deal. Sorry guys, I just wanted to let you know before I was barraged with WTB e-mails again

I think the only spherical objects to be blamed here are marbles, as in I have lost mine at this point Oh well, life is short, it's only money, I'll forget about the cost the first time I open it up, the kills of cars that cost 2-3X what I spent will be fun, etc. etc.
Besides it is always a pleasure dealing with Steph and Corky.

Internal wastegate. What I am getting is most similar to the 743347-1 with the 0.64 AR turbine. I'm getting the 15 psi actuator which according to Steph can be adjusted from 11-18 psi. That will be perfect for my EBC open-loop temperature sensitivity reduction experiment.
I am still on the fence about the anti-surge housing. That is what I ordered but I am not sure if it is necessary, or a good idea. Based on my initial read I thought it would help with low-end spool by spreading the compressor map to the left. But as I read into it more last night I might have that wrong, and it looks like it could actually hurt spool. I am not particularly interested in the intake-whistly sound it apparently brings along either.
Thoughts?
