Head removal - quick question

So I bought a 1.8 long block and I requested that he remove the head before I haul it 300 miles for weight savings.

Anyway, he told me you need a special star tool to remove the head. Is there any such truth to this?

Spanks.

RyanRaduechel 02-28-2012 04:06 PM

Well the head bolts are a 12 pointed head, so maybe he means a 12 pointed socket... Well thats my guess anyways

soviet 02-28-2012 04:40 PM

all you need is a 12pt 12mm socket.

curly 02-28-2012 05:20 PM

I thought it was a 12 point 14mm? I could be wrong.

Now you have me second guessing myself, lol. I was sure it's 12 point 12mm.

Just bring both, it's one of them for sure. ;)

RyanRaduechel 02-28-2012 06:21 PM

I think its a 14mm

FRT_Fun 02-28-2012 07:17 PM

You should have a tool kit in your car with both of those anyways ;) But I would just bring a whole set of sockets if you dont.

shuiend 02-28-2012 07:24 PM

It is a 12point 12mm end of story.

Here ya go.

They sure look like 12pt 14mm to me? The cam cap bolts are 10mm for comparison.

shuiend 02-28-2012 07:41 PM

My video skills are not as good as Joe Perez's, please forgive me for that.

curly 02-28-2012 08:01 PM

I demand a recount.

FRT_Fun 02-28-2012 09:46 PM

Definitely camera trickery there. I need more proof.

Whatever, we've recently uncovered evidence that shuiend isn't an american citizen, so his proof is invalid, and we've begun researching ways of making the 14mm socket work. We'll probably use an adapter.

gearhead_318 02-29-2012 12:11 AM

Your all wrong, it's a 12 point 13mm.

I like your style of thinking

If you use enough JB Weld to reduce it to 12mm, the adapter SHOULD work....

You almost got it right, it's a 13 point, 12 mm.

12.7 point 12mm, or did I mix up my inch and metric sockets?

Just because I know you are getting up there in age and starting to get forgetful I will produce another video tonight to yet again show you that it is a 12point 12mm.:rofl:
