Latest K swap idea!

It would be an awesome engine, but I think its different from the typical K24/K20 in that the intake/exhaust is swapped. Of course, this would eliminate the need for the header going under the engine. Not sure if the bolt-pattern changes to the transmission, but I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to change that. Given the price, however, its probably on par with an LS swap in terms of cost to use this engine currently.

I spent a while looking at this engine at SEMA. It seems to be a K series in name only, and shares little resemblance to the older engines. The most notable is the intake and exhaust are on the opposite sides of the older Ks (same as the Miata though). The weird oil pan with the oil filter port integrated into it could definitely make steering rack clearance a challenge, but I wouldn't know for sure until I pulled the pan off one.
Long story short, when I can get my hands on one of these for cheap I'll pick one up and take it apart. I hear the Accord is getting the exact same engine, so those should be dime a dozen pretty soon. Pair it up with a BMW trans and it would be hard to argue with that combo of cheap/fast/reliable.

A 1.8 setup like you described could make similar power, but wouldn't touch the reliability of a completely stock Honda engine. These engines are dynoing at almost 300whp right out of the box with no tuning, on pump gas. That's pretty impressive.

IF these motors are reliable. They should be, with Honda's track record. But I'm not making any assumptions just yet. They still haven't figured out how to make a transmission that doesn't grind, from the early reviews of the type R

Yes...all new engine/architecture. Designed from the get-go to be a turbo engine.
Accord 2.0T engine is basically a de-tuned type-r motor (mostly in the head/turbo) and for the aftermarket I will would think the accord motor will be the better choice. The type-r tax is not going to be worth the cost difference. As you mentioned, the accord motors will be readily available from wrecked cars in a years time.
TSX K24 with just about any turbo bolted on the side can make 305whp...so old K24s still make the most sense especially since there's already mount kits...

Cams, pistons, rods, intake valves, turbo, intercooler, oil pump & pan.
Probably better and cheaper to get a standard junkyard K engine and build it.

There are significant differences between the two:
