No idea. Probably many years in the back of bob's garage. I hope your crazy idea has something to do with getting rings unstuck from the piston after sitting a long time. I tried soaking the piston in ATF overnight but that hasn't helped :(

Bingo. I doubt that running ATF in the motor would help just because you obviously have some compression, which tells me that at least one of the rings (probably the top compression ring) is sealing. If I were you, I would pull the motor and just pull that piston/rod out to inspect. Un-crust the rings and plop it back in. I started cleaning off my b6t pistons the other night and I was fucking ASTOUNDED at how bad the second ring and the oil control rings were. No amount of ATF soaking would fix that had I just thrown them into a motor. I had to pry them out with a dental pick.

Not exactly what I suspected, but pretty close. Piston rings from #3.

So wait... It was broken to begin with, or I was right and it was super stuck?

= profit? Just got in from the garage after trying to put the new rings on. Look what came off the piston. Can I just run it without this piece in there? /sarcasm Attachment 196542 |
I have 3 good stock pistons from a B6 motor.

Holy crap that thing must of ran HOT. Replace all four if you can. Used stickers should be cheap.

I should also mention that there is a groove in the cylinder wall of number 3 that I didn't notice before. I can catch a fingernail on it so i'm just throwing in the towel on this block which sucks because I spent hours cleaning and painting it :(
bbundy who sold me this might have a long block I can pick up from him. If not there is a long block 2 hours away that i'm considering, just tough for me to drive down and get it. I'm starting to get really frustrated with all of my car problems. Another thing to note that bob pointed out is that 323 GTX intake manifolds seem to feed air a lot better to cylinder 3 than the rest. He has a GTX with a dead cylinder number 3 right now as well. Seems to be a common problem. |
If you can wait until my build is done in about a month you can have my current block for free.
I also know where you can get some BRAND new std size pistons and new rods for $300. Pulled out of a crate engine and never used. |

I wish you luck!
My engine is being bored out next week. Still up for doing assembly for me? |
