NSFW boost friendly engine years??!! HELP PLEASE!!!
hey guys im new to miata's but no stranger to turbo 4 bangers, i have a 1991 hatch mustang with a 2.3 turbo ford motor at 648whp. but thats where the fun ends and the research and friendly help of others kicks in and these little matchbox.. i mean miata roadsters... im new to these haha.
i just picked up a running driving slammed 91 miata, 5speed of course. i love it to death. ANYWAYS !!! which motors in the miata's are more boost friendly than others and how much boost? my friend told me theyre's two 1.6 engines, one being better than the other. i just wanna learn about mine a little before i fab up a quickie turbo set up. just till i save up and 2.3T swap this little guy. |
the slammed miatas have the better motors.

I find that only drift miatas have the best motors. I found that by searching.

The best engine is a JDM 1.6L
If you're looking to swap the 2.3 into a Miata, just go for the gold and do a YBT swap. |

Actually, after doing some research I've come to the conclusion that the Gallo 12 is the best for making the most boost.

As far as the 1.6 goes do a search for the B6T and you will find most of your answers. If I were you I would swap in a 1.8 from a 99, get a megasquirt, and then boost it. Your 5 speed and clutch will probably blow before the motor does.

you guys are assholes lol. im not a ricer by any means. i knew my 500 dollar ricer miata would piss u guys off but honestly chill the hell out. im looking to you guys for help and your disrespectful. im a welder and fabricator, the cars going to get a full cage and the frame tied together and a 8.8 rear end swap in it but not all at once. its getting a 500whp ford 2.3 turbo motor in it which is on the engine stand in my garage from my mustang. but not for a while and this is why im asking what the 91 is good for as far as boost and power safely.

Guy, if you want your car to run with chainsaws go ahead. The point you're missing is that there are easier routes to get more power into the car. A LS1 swap will add ~ 200lb total to the net weight of the car, and about 300+ whp.
If you want a slightly bigger block just go ahead and built a 2.0 bp. CEO (I think) is squeezing 700whp off a 2.0 built bp. |

It does have a lot more valves, cams, stroke, rod ratio, rev limiter, and injectors to compensate. Plus it's a hell of a lot easier to fit one in a miata. |
