That basic architecture (in esslinger form) is still the dominant powerplant in midget racing with peak rpms wwwaayyy above any miata I've heard of. I thought SVO Mustang engines were heavy as ****--cast iron block & head and all--like the same weight as a 5.0.

 

They are not light, no question. Aluminum head can be done with a bunch of work...

Our engines aren't exactly the lightest either though.
