Oil pressure gauge/sender and MS3
I picked up a 1.6 oil pressure sensor and factory gauge piece from a buddy for my '99. Thought I might make it work in the '99. Not worth the hassle fiddling with the gauge cluster. Not a bolt in fit and the work involved to make it is more than I want to do.
Question is-- Could I use the early sender that to my knowledge outputs a known signal vs psi in the '99 and still have the factory gauge cluster idiot gauge work. I know it won't read actual PSI, but will it act as it did on the factory sender and just read "Yay I have pressure"?
Question two-- Using the early oil pressure sender can I splice in and get an actual PSI reading for the MS3 ecu to receive and log/use?
Reason-- I want my factory gauge cluster to work proper so that I don't momentarily freak out when I see the gauge read nothing. I want the MS3 to read the oil pressure and be able to get the PSI on the AndroidDash app.
Electronics experience-- I can wire a stereo and solder some wires together if given retard proof diagrams.

1: untitled
2: Yes, you can read any analog sensor with any MS, so long as you have a known calibration table (volts vs. units being measured.) Just remember that the gauge itself is already providing a pullup.

Thanks. Probably won't redo the windings, but the resistors and degreasing might do the trick. Got part of that stuff in searching. Just not all of it for some reason.
Props- the odd number was bugging me.

I found 1/2 watt 180ohm resistors locally at Radio Shack. Whole pack of different one for a few bucks. Ordering just 2 on Amazon is silly expensive for what they are. Any other sites for the 1 watt recommended? My father usually has good recommendations, but the time difference makes me wait days to get a hold of him at times.
Or are 1/2watt fine for the gauge? Article says factory is 2W and he used 1W.

Is that in the ECU? I honestly have no idea what that means. Individually I think it means ECU settings and trims, also circuit board stuff. Not the question. I'm asking about the actual oil pressure gauge itself in the gauge cluster.

I don't even have an ECU at the moment. Waiting on my MS3 from Rev and don't know much about the unit itself. Short of awesome if it fits. Was trying to just mod the gauge itself and use an early sender. I'm pretty sure just jamming the sender in and tweaking the MS3 settings gives me readable stuff in there. I want the dash to not be a complete idiot switch. Doesn't need to be perfect just something.
