You are not my best friend anymore.

If the orientation marks of the cam gears and of the crank pulley were alligned correctly when looking for TDC, whatever its called, once the timing belt is installed.

Just saying that he may have skipped badly a one tooth or more, I hope my exntensive knowledge of automotive experience can shed some light to the problem.
