10hp/11tq gain on a rotrex'd BP05 is kind of a bummer.

The fact that its a BP05 manifold is kind of a bummer. Hopefully they'll make others.

we already have a good manifold option out there for the BP4W. gordeev makes the honda intake manifold kit for it and then you always have the flat top.

aidandj 06-15-2017 09:01 AM

Honda is welded flat top is meh.

Comes free with Jackson Racing Rotrex kit. Has a 50% off Tecnas coupon in the throttle body.

I mean its not like its been known that designing a good intake manifold for the BP that actually works well on a stock motor is next to impossible. Corky Bell has said for years that unless you have a built motor and over 300whp, its hard to build something better then 99/00/flattop.

huesmann 06-15-2017 03:21 PM

It's not like Mazda didn't pay its engineers!

it depends.
I built a sheet metal intake manifold that I designed for a flat torque curve from 3000-8500. if your not just cruising around, the manifold would do a real good job.

10hp gains (under boost, no less) over the stock 94-97 manifold? Isn't everyone who cares enough to buy this already running a 99+ head?

corky bell just learned a few months ago what a flat top even is.

Warning: Unpopular opinion ahead!

Purposes of a mostly street car, i don't care what head is on the car when it comes to forced induction. Want more power? Run more boost. In the context of an off the shelf rotrex running off the shelf bandaids and the kit as-delivered, i'm not going to care or want to go through the trouble of a head swap, but i WOULD maybe bolt on an easy 10hp/10ftlbs for a few hundo and 2 hours of my time.

I'm waiting to see what this does on an n/a NBs. I'd like to see it on a mostly stock motor, and a race grenade motor.

And then it promptly disappeared into a late morning tequila haze.

Braineack 06-16-2017 01:02 PM

the problem with testing on a rotrex, is we have no clue what the mid-range gains will be :P

18psi 06-16-2017 01:06 PM

back to stock midrange....so the gains are UUUGE

Savington 06-16-2017 02:35 PM

Nothing epitomizes Skunk2 like spending years of time and thousands of dollars developing an intake manifold for the wrong cylinder head

18psi 06-16-2017 02:41 PM

RIGHT??!!

And by developing it, you mean just another egay knockoff with re-designed mounting points.

Do you know what's even easier and cheaper than an intake manifold swap if you just want another 10whp on your '94 head? I know a guy who has a pretty good idea of what might be easier:

I was going to say, if you think the bang/buck of this intake manifold kicks the ass of a head swap, wait till you see the bang/buck of a pulley swap.

aidandj 06-16-2017 04:48 PM

Or an EBC....5psi-30psi with the turn of a knob.

AlwaysBroken 06-16-2017 04:49 PM

I thought this was being sold as an option for a supercharger kit.
