Default Start up problems (with Magna pwning win)

I've finally got the point where the motor can be fired up in bay after rebuilding the bottom. Yay for spun bearings :fml:

There be problems though, why else would I be aksking for help, right?

It cranks (duh) but doesn't fire. Ok...correction, doesn't fire with the wires in correct order (1.6 liter, 3-2-1-4) Turns a whole bunch then will effectively burp out the exhaust. In a frustrated stupor, decided I'd try switching the wires around. She fires!..wait a minute, is that smoke...out the intake??? Why yes, it is. Have already confirmed that all the wires and plugs work prior to this.

Took valve cover off to look at where lobs are sitting. Put a 21 socket on the crank bolt and the E, and I markings on the cam gears match the markings on the plate. I still have the water pump and belt attached, so I can't see if the cam markings actually do indicate Top Dead Center, but I'm inclined to believe it does given the amount of effort spent installing timing belt.

Scott, I asked Lars for your number. I'll be wracking my brain over this tomorrow no doubt if you want to call while I'm at work the distraction would be welcomed. (Pm or whatever. =P )

Ok, you need to be sure that the mechanical timing and belt tension are correct before going any further.

On the 1.8 it's a tad confusing in that for the Intake gear you align the "E" mark on the gear w/ the "E" mark on the plate, and opposite on the Exhaust gear. I don't know if the 1.6 is the same.

If you have exhaust flowing from the intake, then you have mechanical timing issues. This means that the intake valve is opening when the exhaust valve should be, however; I don't see how your getting fuel into the charge, should be drawing from the exhaust....maybe leftover fuel in the cylinder. You may also be off by several teeth, generally f*cking everything up.

Make sure your coil packs are not hooked up wrong also. Check timing w/ out fuel during cranking.

damn lars!

make sure the timing belt is absolutely correct first off.

then make sure the wires on on the right coils. #1 and #4 should be on the rightmost coil (looking into the bay), 3 & 2 on the left most.

Ok well if his catalytic converter is clogged his engine wont be able to flow enough air to allow it to run, ie it wont start. Then i asked him if his fuel pump is indeed working.

There's no cat attached. It's open down pipe out the turbo outlet. Waste gate wired open. Fuel pump is on, and delivering plenty of it.

well let's break it down:

do something | with what | random adjective | for what purpose | the object | isn't something

take your cat loose to make sure it isnt that

take

We are going to take something. Like grab something, or pick up, or posses it.

your cat
We are going to take our cat. Okay, we are going to grab/pick up/posses our cat.

loose
We are going to take our cat loose? This word is out of place and incorrect. How do you loose something? we can loosen something, but we already took it. are we going to take the cat and loosen it?

to make sure

We are going to take our cat loose, to make sure... Once we loose the cat, we can determine something.

it
We are going to take our cat loose, to make sure it... Refering to the cat. So, we are going to take our cat loose, to make sure the cat...

isnt that
we are going to take our cat loose, to make sure the cat isn't it. Isn't what?

can you see why we are lost?

lets take your same formula and make sense with it:

do something | with what | random adjective | for what purpose | the object | isn't something

Check your cat loose to make sure it isn't clogged.

It's crazy what picking the correct words can do to a sentence.

Unless you look like this: you simply have no excuse for communicating so poorly.

Ok scot our understood subject is as allways the original post. So of course any post i make is part of the original problem so realistically if you reference any subject comfusion with the reasoning that it all refers to getting his car runing it works fine. I had no idea all of my post needed to be stand alone complex's. And i couldn't infer on the know and previusly stated subjects of the post so STFU newb :P

I think it's amazing that you don't understand my complaint with what you wrote. it made no sense. I had a feeling about what you were getting at, only because I can decipher your text after all these years :P

You cant tell someone to "take their cat loose," and expect them to read "remove your cat and check for clogs."

and for this I'm giving you your own grammar award!

Well im just saying its the only thing that makes sense if you and i where talking about SLR's and i told you to take your lens loose and clean it cause you where having trouble with haze on your zoom. What would you have inferred on that? I see what you are saying but its an asinine point.
