190 HP or 255 for now + future?
Hey guys, I know it's commonly suggested to go with the Walbro 190 lph High Pressure fuel pump over the 255 lph unit for most of our turbo applications.
I have noticed though, that some V8 guys are using the 255.
I am trying to plan ahead and set the car up now with things as I replace them that will not only work right now with my current set up but that will also be approcpriate for a V8 setup within the next couple years...
What is the downside of the 255 that makes the 190 recommendable over it usually, and should I get that if I plan to do a V8 swap in the future or can the 190 handle those needs?
Thanks
-Ryan

So what I've gathered so far is that while the 255 would be good for a V8, it's no bueno for the 1.6 fuel system.
190 HP then?

Odd question, but what if you added a resistor inline with the wiring to lower voltage to the pump? When you swap to the different engine or run a better regulator, you could remove the resistor to give the pump full voltage.

I've run this regulator for YEARS with a 255 with much success. You can adjust the fuel pressure down to 10-15psi, or as high as 90psi (great for testing fuel fittings). It holds the pressure rock steady with the engine off and a charger on the car to give the system the full 13.5+ volts. Set mine at 40psi on the LS probably 8 months ago and to this day (well, last month when I started the car) it holds dead steady at 40psi.
P.S.- My GSS340 screams like a whipple.... Very annoying

Note that if you do lower the voltage the flow capacity of the pump will be reduced.

They have knockoffs on ebay so watch out. I have a 2004 msm with a walbro 255 off ebay and I paid like 80 I think. Its been installed for about six months and no problems yet its louder then stock but nothing that I get irritated from. My cars running pretty rich just because I have 321cc injectors and a walbro 255 . I would go with the 255lph

Aeromotive FTW!
well in light of this thread my 255 finally finally **** the bed. so it was time for a suitable replacement. and stumbled across the new 340 stealth in tank pumps from Aeromotive. here is a link.

check out the flow chart. even at 90 psi it's still crankin out 200lph
more than enough for most of our needs and super quiet. can barely hear it prime and then nothin once the car is running. even when the pressure is up in the 90s there is no sign of it, just gobs of flow. thought some of you might like to hear about a quiet alternative that out performs the old standard. it even fits with little effort into the stock cradle. definitely cant say that about the walbro 255. had to scale back my ve tables quite a bit. any way if it holds up to my abuse or blows up, I'll post some long term thoughts. so far I'm lovin it. I can actually hold a conversation without yelling in my car again.
