There's a good selection of big brake kits for the front of the Miata. Heck, we've had various versions since 1995, and currently offer a number of exclusive options. But there's never been a good option for the rear before.

We took the Wilwood Powerlite caliper - the same one used in our Little Big Brake Kit - and mounted it to a custom bracket on the rear. We sized it to work with the factory brake rotors from 1994-02 and 2001-05, to keep rotor costs down. This also makes it a drop-in upgrade for almost every big brake kit on the market.

But the parking brake has traditionally been the problem for this sort of setup. So we're using a custom caliper that has a cable-actuated parking brake with almost no weight penalty. That's right, a lightweight four-piston rear caliper with an integrated parking brake.

Now, we're not going to claim the parking brake is as strong as stock. It'll hold the car on a mild slope. It's not going to work for drifting. If you park in San Francisco, you'll need to leave the car in gear. But it's good enough to make the kit SCCA legal.

I've run this setup on my 400 hp V8 Miata at Laguna Seca quite happily as well as on the street. When paired with our Little Big Brake kit on the front, it's a really nice, light setup with inexpensive consumables, a firm pedal and very good braking power.

The Track version (no parking brake) is $495. That includes the calipers, pads (Wilwood E compound), lines and brackets. We have these in stock and ready to ship.

The Street version (with parking brake) is $595. That includes the calipers, pads (Wilwood E compound), lines, brackets and custom cables. We're waiting for some more calipers on this one, it will likely be 6 weeks before they're able to ship.

This seems like a good alternative to replacing a seized NAPA caliper every 3-4 years...on that alone, it might pay for itself in 20 years...

Does wilwood warranty these for at least 20 years? ;-)

Of course, we'll sell any individual part. However, the kits that come from Wilwood are heavily, heavily discounted. I doubt that deleting the front rotors and pads would actually save any money. Deleting the rear rotors and pads, definitely.

Minus parking brake cable - but with the parking brake caliper? It's a custom cable, you can't pick one up off the shelf.

"Flyin' Miata Supersize 4-wheel Brake Happy Meal"

FM is already using "Supersize" to reference "bigger", and FM is already using "Happy Meal" to reference a kit where "everything you need is included". This might just be improved branding unless a certain fast-food chain legal team finds out.

The LBBKs did initially sell out and there was a long wait for us to replenish stock, as Wilwood takes a while to build calipers. We've had them in stock ever since - until about two weeks ago. We're waiting for a new shipment of calipers, but it shouldn't take too long.

If you keep your order in the queue, you'll get the next available set and you don't pay until we ship. If you cancel your order, you go back to the back of the line. Just FYI.

Keith, what does the LBBK cost when you add the 2-piece front and 1-piece rear rotors to the kit?

We have no two-piece rotors in a suitable size. The ones used in the BBK are a full 11", the stock Sport diameter is actually 10.6" and we rounded up.

We don't have a kit price for rotors with the LBBK - mostly because we've just got too many kits already. So just add in the price of stock-size rotors.

We've shipped a bunch of them already - enough that we ran out of cables from the first shipment. We expect another shipment in the next week or two, and then everything should stay in stock from that point on. Calipers are in stock.

It will work with any 1994-05 stock size rear rotor. So if you can source two-piece rear rotors in either the 10" or 11" size - and they're out there - then you've got it.

Keith, I have 11" (.810" thick) two-piece rotors from a monstermiata rear brake kit, any chance your kit would work with those? Or would the brackets definitely not match up?

Are the rear wilwood combination calipers fixed, or floating/sliding?

If the rotors are built to stock dimensions, they will fit. That's the general rule for anyone who's wondering about compatibility.

0.810" is probably a vented rotor, it's not going to fit in place of a 0.5" stock rotor. So no, those wouldn't work in the rear.

The Wilwood calipers are fixed, two pistons per side.

I'm sure we could make that happen, but we'd probably have to order 50 sets. There's not much need for a vented rear rotor, honestly.

We could easily do a no-parking brake version, though. That uses an off-the-shelf caliper, so we'd just have to do special brackets. I'm pretty sure Brandon's already done the CAD work for that, although there's no guarantee that whatever random rotor Monster used would match up to the majority of 11" two-piece rotors on the market.

We are getting special run done in red due to lots of requests. They're in production now, so we should have red ones available around the new year. The calipers are usually anodized, so the red powdercoat does add a bit of cost. $100 extra for the rears, $200 extra for a four-wheel kit.

the mechanical actuator for the handbrake you guys built-in is really nice solution,

ahh, so you already have brackets to adapt the dynalite to the vented 11" two-piece rears? cool...
